It's so true.

What's the difference between a Baptist and a Catholic? Catholics'll talk to each other in a liquor store.

You know why you bring 2 Baptists fishing?

So one doesn't drink all your beer.

I commend the father of the bride for not being a dumbass and wasting money on getting a bunch of DH's drunk on his dime...most of which he hasn't met before and will never see again.

This is precisely why my wife and I had wine and beer at our wedding with the exception of father of the bride-we paid for it ourselves.

It was about 50 people and I knew if I had liquor I would have 49 drunks and my mother.

Do people magically not get drunk off of beer and wine?

ETA: If you didn't want to spend the money on an open bar, just say that. don't make some ridiculous excuse.

Cash bars are fine as long as beer, wine, and champagne are already provided.

Money dances are somewhat tacky but I've seen that many times in weddings in SW LA. I always bring a monetary gift so no need to dance for it lol

I've got all the fricking money I need for an open bar now as well as then. I also know I had alcoholic friends who are like a lot of the slapdicks in this thread and would get shitfaced regardless of if I paid or if they paid and my wife, myself, her family and my family chose to not turn our wedding into a Friday night pledge party.

People who think they are entitled to alcohol just to attend a wedding are fricking immature morons. It's a ceremony that one would hope would be respected.

I'm sure you are the overalls and ballcap guest.

I've been to probably over a hundred weddings in my lifetime and I can say I've been to quite a few that did not have alcohol and don't recall running my lip out to pout because I couldn't have a drink for a couple hours.

Have one before you walk in, slip out to the trunk during and guzzle all you want after.

Ever heard of a Sip and See party? I wish I hadn't.

Thankfully I heard it in the context of my fiance saying, "Can you believe the shite people try to get you to go to these days?"

Never heard of that? Can't be any worse than the most narcissistic of them all, the gender reveal party.

What Is a Sip and See Party?

A Sip and See party is a welcoming party for a new baby. See parties used to be going out for a few drinks. They have now evolved into large parties in the home. They have become large lavish affairs with cake and champagne, and people don’t spare any expense. The guests arrive to a warm welcome with cocktails and maybe light appetizers.
This tradition is gaining speed over the traditional baby shower. There is no large meal, no games, and no gifts are required. Mom and dad set a time for guests to drop by, have a drink and some snacks, see the baby and be on their way.

Why must you bring 2 Baptists on a fishing trip?

Because if you only bring one - He'll drink all your beer.

Sounds terrible but I'd rather see someone's new baby for a couple minutes and leave over spending hours at someone's house waiting to see a F'n balloon get popped

I paid for beer and wine. Sorry not paying for extended family and people my parents encouraged me to invite for them to get hammered.

Not poor, but not one to throw away money either.

Do people who do this make sure there's an ATM on site, in case you forget to hit one up before not knowing what's up?
