NEW ORLEANS – The NBA announced today that New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 9 through Sunday, March 15. Davis led the Pelicans to a 2-1 week, with averages of 31.3 points (second in the league), 10.0 rebounds (tied-10th in the West), 6.0 assists and a league-leading 4.7 blocks. Davis posted two point-rebound double-doubles and handed out five or more assists in all three games.

In the Pelicans’ win March 9 at Milwaukee, Davis posted a career-high tying 43 points on 17-23 (.739) shooting from the floor, becoming the only player this season to score at least 43 points while shooting over .700 from the field. Additionally, Davis recorded six assists and 10 rebounds, becoming the fourth player in NBA history to record at least 40 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while shooting at least .650 from the floor. In a double-overtime loss to Denver on March 15, Davis flirted with a quadruple-double, recording 36 points, 14 rebounds, a career-high seven assists and a career-high-tying nine blocks, becoming the first player in NBA history to collectively record those figures in a single game since blocks were first officially recorded in 1973-74.

This is the first time in Davis’ three-year career he has won the award. Davis becomes the sixth recipient of the award in New Orleans franchise history, and the first since Greivis Vasquez in December of 2012.

Below is a recap of the week for Davis:

March 9 @ Milwaukee: Scored 43 points and added 10 rebounds, six assists and two blocks in a 114-103 win over the Bucks.

March 10 @ Brooklyn: Collected 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks during a 111-91 win over the Nets.

March 15 vs. Denver: Posted 36 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and nine blocks during a 118-111 double-overtime loss to the Nuggets.
