Do subjective awards matter to you in determining who is a better player? Things like ALL NBA, MVPS, All Star games?
All star games? no.
the other two are obviously factored into the equation but not and end all be all.

Players on championship winning teams are more likely to win those awards.
Well the player in question has a pretty impressive resume in those types of awards without being on a championship team.
No MVP but theirs been damn steep competition since he's been in the league. I think Kobe won it the year he was most deserving.
ETA: in the case of TM, what awards would he have won that he did not by playing with Shaq?
7× NBA All-Star (2001–2007)
2× All-NBA First Team (2002–2003)
3× All-NBA Second Team (2001, 2004, 2007)
2× All-NBA Third Team (2005, 2008)
2× NBA scoring champion (2003–2004)
NBA Most Improved Player (2001)

When the other defense is focused on Shaq it would open up so many more opportunities for McGrady to get open shots, drive the lane, get assists etc. When that happened it would increase his confidence and when players are more confident they are better.
Its like how QB's can become better players when they have a great line and WR's. Look at Kurt Warner when he was on the Giants versus the Cardinals, wouldn't you say he was a better player with the Cardinals?

Tony Parker has played with Tim Duncan his entire career. What has he accomplished without him?
Parker was the Spurs best player from 2007-2014

quote:Yep, and his numbers would be better..but he'd still be the same exact player.

quote:They don't become better, they're the exact same guy, but put up better numbers because of their casts...but technically speaking, they are the same guy whether they have a team full of studs or are on a crap team.

Oh and on a side note, Tony Parker has been REALLY REALLY REALLY bad this year. He's either trying to play hurt or his age really caught up to him. He's the main reason for the Spurs decline. He is 457/464 in the league in real plus minus.
