Building a new house and want to install the doggie dog in the wall (current house has just the plastic flap type in storm door) and use the collar on dog to activate it to keep the varmints out,
Have searched on line and see a number of them.
Anyone install one of these??
TIA for any help.

Is it for the dog or the kids?

I couldn't get my fat arse through it so it would be for the dog. No kids although I could see grandkids trying to use it!

I have one and I'll get the brand when I'm back home. Goes thru the all on the side of my door. It's all aluminum. I actually installed myself.
It is awesome. Double flap, carpet inside the frame part where is passes thru wall. Locks if you want, etc
I do know there are some that are activated by a device on collar so only the pet you want in can come in.
To the dumb arse who says "why". Lol. That damn door saved my sanity. I can't imagine how I lived without it. 2 dogs.

I am about to start construction on my house next month. We plan on installing a dog door as well. Will put it in a door though, not a wall. Ideally one that activates using the collar. So please do follow up.
At the "Why?" Both wife and I work during the day and cant always get home to let the dog out. this way a well trained dog and go in and out as it needs. The color activation keeps out coons and such.

We don't have one, but if we did, this would be onw of our dogs... standing half in/half out all day long... thinking... ohh... my nose is cold and my butt is nice and toasty inside.... gonna stand right here until someone comes home....

I would need one that I could remotely deactivate when it was raining, because if not my stupid dogs would go outside during the rain and come inside to lay on the couches.

They make ones that have apps, remote access to turn it off. Or you can put set times to open up to prevent them going out in the middle of the night if they like to bark.

I'm stuck putting mine through a wall due to only having glass doors on back side of house. Price goes up but I have no other choice. I live the one posted with activated door from dog collar. I'm looking into that one.

I can't decide if i want to put one in the door or in the wall. I am leaning more towards the wall one.

I have one in my back storm door now with just the single flap. Flap is plastic and starts to wrap over time (I've replaced it once) and doesn't look that great over time (I've had this one for ~2 yrs. now. The one I'll put in the new house will not be off of the living area so guests want see it when they come over. More expensive but will look a lot better in the end.

My old house had one in the door. It was awesome. My new house has no dog door and my dog and I are not happy about the lack of one.
I'm going to have to do something similar to this because I'm cutting the wall.

Bumping this from a couple months back. I am purchasing one today.
Does anybody here have any experience with the ones that lock and only let the dog in if it has the tag on their collar? TIA

Do the door. If you ever sell the house the new owner can replace the door a lot easier that patching a big arse hole in the wall.
ETA: Just read your dilemma regarding the sliding glass. Ignore me. Carry on.

Is this a sliding glass door? They have the panels that fit up against the glass door to keep you from having to cut a hole in door or wall.
Edit: Just realized this thread was bumped from a couple months old.
