Where: Auburn Arena (9,121 - 116th NCAA) Auburn, AL

***TV: ESPNU

Earlier this month, LSU had a two game stretch that simply has analyst scratching their heads. The Tigers lost at 5-9 Mississippi St and at home against 4-10 Auburn in a four day stretch that LSU would love to forget. It's the difference in LSU's current bubble predicament and a lock fighting for better seeding. Still, LSU goes on the road with a lot to prove and a lot to be accomplished.
LSU is currently in a tie for 5th place in the SEC with Georgia and two game behind Ole Miss and Texas A&M for the coveted 3/4 seeds in the SEC Tournament (top 4 seeds get 2 round bye). LSU likely has no chance at catching Texas A&M, but with a contest against Ole Miss this coming weekend, LSU still has a chance to catch the Rebels in the SEC standings, but first things first; Auburn.
Auburn attacked LSU with a three headed monster in their first meeting. KT Harrell (28 points), Antoine Mason (24 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals), and Cinmeon Bowers (16 points, 10 rebounds) took over the game. Defensively, LSU had no answer to these guys and will have to vastly improve their defense on them if they plan on winning in Auburn.
Kentucky was able to absolutely destroy Auburn over the weekend 110-75, but does that have Auburn coming into this one hungry or defeated? With master motivator, Bruce Pearl, at the helm you have to expect the Auburn Tigers to come out firing. LSU needs to continue to feed the ball down low to Mickey and Martin as well as get out in transition and look for easy buckets.
It's been almost a month since LSU won back to back games, but LSU is in dire need of a winning streak. These next three games are winnable and LSU needs to take advantage before a big time showdown at Arkansas to end the season.
Prediction:
LSU 80, Auburn 74
line: LSU -5

We definitely need to win this game to keep our tournament hopes alive. Payback for AU for beating us at the PMAC earlier this season.

This is a no doubt we have to win contest.
Those earlier losses to Auburn and Mizzou are really killing us right now. No more let downs guys.

This one feels like a must-win for our tournament hopes. Getting swept by Auburn would be a big black eye, and another bad loss on the resume.

I predict LSU will come out to a double digit lead early and have Auburn tie the game
the lead will change hands a couple times in the second half and LSU will again have a double digit lead, but will win by 5

I expect us to win but also for Auburn to go on a run of 12+-0 and Johnny still not use his one garbage timeout before half.

Should be a an easy win just like the last one. Unfortunately, our guys don't show up for the easy ones. Hopefully they finally realize they are their own worst enemy and play like they are capable of. Need to get momentum going for NCAA. Otherwise, they might as well not even make it.

If we don't win this game the hopes of getting into the NCAA tourney are probably reduced to winning the SEC tourney.

I think we win tonight, Josh Gray is my baw... sit with him in a class.. dude is nice

I am most worried about the amount of 3 pointers we shoot in this game. If we keep it under 15 for the game we should be OK. 10 or less would be awesome.
Also, Bridgewater is playing a lot more as a reserve now. I am not sure how well he matches up in this one.

If you look back at the first game I think you'll see that Harrell and Mason just hit a ton of tough (and many contested) jumpers including 3's. LSU actually had a better FG% for the game and out-rebounded AU both on the offensive and defensive glass. In fact, both Mickey and Martin each had more rebounds than Bowers. TOs were virtually even. I really don't think LSU's defense was THAT bad.
The 3 point and FT line is where LSU lost that game. 24% from 3 and 15/23 (65%) from the line. I think Gray was only 5/10 by himself.
It's hard to imagine that Harrell and Mason will knock down as many contested shots as they did in the first game and combine for 52 points again. If LSU plays the same game again I think they win by 6-7 points. Also, we have to remember that Patterson was out for the first game. While he's not LSU top scorer, he's had a knack for hitting big shots in big spots during the game. With him starting it's clear that the staff trusts him more than Gray.

I honestly have no idea what to expect tonight. Obviously we can play with anyone when we want to, but we've seen the opposite end of that far too many times.

Probably a little better than he does against most SEC teams. Bowers is AU's monster inside, but he gets it done on brute strength and effort rather than skill and height (he's listed as 6'7"). Bridgewater is the only guy on LSU's team that should be able to match him physically.
Bottom line, if Bridgewater is playing significant minutes that means Mickey and/or Martin aren't. That ain't good. If you can get 4-5 minutes in the 1st half and 1-2 minutes in the 2nd from him without him being dominated underneath because of his lack of height, that's all you can ask for.

Yeah, I've given up trying to figure this team out. I'm hoping that revenge against Auburn and the motivation of making the NCAA tournament will help us play well, but I don't know if it actually will.
