Why not Patricia Parker?
No one knows who Spiderwoman is so let's just change Peter Parker to a female rather than going with Jessica Drew.

And? There is 60 years of Bond being white yet the majority of people here want Idris Elba to play him in the future.
Why would Parker as a black man be pandering when Bond would not?
This is a good point and I think it needs to be addressed.
I'll admit to, at one point, suggesting that I'd have been happy with Elba as Bond. That's in part for two reasons. First, I'm not a huge Bond aficionado. I like some of them, but I can take or leave most of them. Second is I honestly did not know much of the history of the books until watching a Bond documentary on Netflix a week or so ago. After watching that, I actually would have an issue with Bond staying too far from his origins...the guy was essentially writing Bond as his alter ego. I think there's something to be said for keeping a creator's creation what he intended it to be when he created it.
Aside form all that, Bond has only had <20 movies and significantly less books. How many movies, TV shows, comics, cartoons episodes, have featured these iconic comic book characters over the last 60 years? It's enumerable. While Bond is certainly iconic, he's not Superman. Most of these main guys are as iconic as real people because we have known them as along and know them inside and out. The thing that gave comic fans chills in this scene was because these guys that we grew up with were finally REAL...as real as we had always imagined they were.

Yep.
Like you said earlier, it's an attempt to piggyback onto an already popular icon rather than utilizing another character that fits with their agenda.
It not only steals from the original and fans of that, but it's also lazy on the part of the studio.
It sucks from all angles...

after peter parker's sex change I want him to shoot webs out of his fileted penis/manmade vagina
will sure free up his arms when he's hanging upside down

No I asked you if he had any real connections with being white in his history that would considerably change Peter Parker's character and personality if he weren't white outside of comic book reader just being used to him being white.
That's clearly not the case if you change his gender.

That's clearly not the case if you change his gender.
Everything would be the same with opposite sexes.
Gus Stacy dies. She falls in love with Matt Jane.

How would changing the gender matter outside of readers simply being used to him being a guy? In the end, with a fictional character, that's all we're talking about.
I'm arguing that what he looks like (honestly more than his actual "race") is an essential part of who he is...same as his sex. I think they matter, because changing them alters the icon some much (again, my opinion) that you end up with something that is no longer the original.

The name, the characters names and personalities around them, the characters growth would be different (Spider-Mans beginning is a big euphemism for hitting puberty, which I don't know if you know but Girls and guy have very different stages of), a girl being a nerd vs a guy being one in HS is a very different dynamic to it.
It would fundamentally change the story, Peter Parker being black would not.

My point exactly. That changes things a lot.
No one is suggesting to change the name to Jamal Parker and Marquisha Jane. The only difference is the color of the skin. I don't have an issue with that if it comes about due to their worthiness to play the character

Smh.
Because if *insert black actor* is the best for the role then pick him. That's what I've said all along. Don't pick him because he's black but because he's the best for the personality of Peter Parker and Spider-Man

Why is it that fictional characters can't maintain the characteristics they've had their entire existences?

Really? Nothing would change in that scenario? Come on dude.

And we clearly disagree and have stated why.
We are talking about a character that is, at it's heart, a visual creation. What he looks like MATTERS. Peter Parker is a kid that looks like this...
Having a black actor, regardless of his chops, play this character makes as much sense as changing his costume to purple and green because you hired a REALLY TALENTED costume designer who works great in those colors.

time for some seriousness
here's the issue that it really boils down to
if you had to create a portrait that best represents the typical spiderman reader/fan/movie goer
what would it look like
I agree with this
Smh.
but you can't downplay changing very distinct attributes from a character that people love because he's so awesome, yet so RELATABLE.
spiderman being black would be difficult to pull off. it would necessitate changing aspects of the story to not offend people, and in the end...you materially change the character people loved to begin with
why is this even a conversations?
peter parker is white...he's a white male? is that so awful?

Youre being dishonest. That is not why they would make Spiderman black. Rumors clearly state that they want to find a black spidey. There is no actor that so embodies the essence of spiderman that you have to change spiderman to make it work. What about age? What if an older man, say in his late 40s, totally crushed the audition?

I'm not really following your argument here. You're essentially advocating for the possibility of changing what the character fundamentally looks like, and then turn around and suggest that making him a girl would be too much of a change.
The question becomes...why even change the character AT ALL so that you end up in a position of having to argue which characteristics are essential and which can be altered? What's so bad about the Spider-Man we've known for 50+ years that he needs to be changed?

Apparently they can't find a white guy who can pull off a nerdy, socially awkward smartass.
