re: Seems like most people have Matic's back after Barnes' horror tackle

If someone tackles ME like that, I'm going to react way more violently. As far as I was concerned, Matic was restrained.
Posted on 2/23/15 at 2:46 am to jackwoods4
I don't get it.
Barnes passes the ball.
Matic gets there late
Barnes steps on Matic's leg because Matic was late
Matic reacts like a child
Most people have Matic's back
I mean if Piers fricking Morgan thinks Matic is right then everyone that agrees ought to take a step back and think about who is on their side

Lol exactly. It's like someone in Ferguson saying the Rev. Al Sharpton is on their side. Yeah, that's a given, but it isn't something I would brag about.

I would have and have reacted the same way after someone tackled me in a brutal way.

Funny how you focused on Piers Morgan and didn't mention the several other people, including many former players, who shared the sentiment.

I hate Chelsea more than any other club but that was garbage.

Ashley Barnes will not face retrospective action from the Football Association following his challenge on Nemanja Matic during Burnley's draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Burnley striker caught the Serbia international with a dangerous studs-up tackle prompting Matic to retaliate by pushing Barnes to floor, earning the Chelsea midfielder a red card.
The FA confirmed on Monday that because the incident was seen by referee Martin Atkinson during the game no further action could be taken.

Such bull that because a ref sees an incident no further action can be taken. Why can't they just admit their employees made a mistake and make a move to rectify it.
I also want to comment on MCB saying because Matic's leg wasn't broken means it wasn't dangerous. You can see his leg bend in the videos. That's dangerous and lucky Matic's leg remained strong. Does not make it an okay play. That's a horrible argument.

"In the vast majority of challenges for the ball, no retrospective action is taken as the incident has been seen by the match officials. Retrospective action introduced as deterrent for ‘off the ball incidents’ [e.g. kicks, stamps etc.] committed out of sight of officials. Whole game in agreement that, in vast majority of cases, match officials are best-placed to deal with incidents to avoid re-refereeing. In line with this rationale, FA confirm no further action in relation to Ashley Barnes as incident was seen by the officials"

You can't fix that kind of stupid.
I genuinely thought he was trolling at first but apparently not.
It really is the worst logic/line of thinking I've ever seen.
He probably wonders why drunk drivers are ticketed unless they cause a fatal crash or why charges like attempted murder exist if they weren't successful.

I don't care if Barnes receives punishment or not, though the reason he can't makes no sense.
The real right thing to do, and the only thing that could amend the situation at this point, is to rescind Matic's ban.

That seems the one thing they absolutely can't do.
I assume, like other leagues, they've already stated many times in ban appeals that "provocation" is never a valid excuse for a "violent response". I know FIGC/Serie A has said this is the precedent numerous times.
They can review and punish the player that provoked the response if the action went unseen by the official but that's all.
However, for all the publicity this specific incident is getting, it seems tackles like this happen at very least every match day in England and by design of the league as well.
Perhaps they just need to do a better job monitoring officials and instructing them to give out red/yellow cards for dangerous play all the time.

Half of the Premier League talking heads would turn around and bitch about how the game has gotten soft

I don't know what's so hard to understand... Matic got what he deserved in the sense that you can't do what he did... No exceptions.
Now, I don't think many or any one blames him for how he reacted... I certainly don't...

Yeah, totally agree.
It happens a lot more often than the outcry over this incident suggests that a player gets a red for hot headed moment that was completely understandable and provoked.
I could wall paper my living room in the red cards Roma has gotten over the years for very similar things.
An, like (our) Joey Barton says above. The league really seems to have no interest in policing these kind of fouls more closely because it would not only seem weak and "continental" but also would reduce the wild pace of EPL that's kind of its marketing draw.

Had he got up and started wailing on the guy I would agree with you. I would understand why he did but couldn't really justify him escaping punishment for it.
However, what he did was so soft. It's beyond laughable that something like that can result in any ban, much less a three game one.
Soccer is, by far, the worst of all sports in putting crime and punishment together. Just like a bs "foul" on a guy who has lost the ball or has his back to goal 17 yards from the net essentially equals an automatic goal in a sport where it's so difficult to score.
There is no common sense at all.

I agree but a three game ban for what Matic did is the definition of soft.

There have been many people on both sides of the argument. Hell, on ESPNFC yesterday one guy said it wasnt even a foul because Matic got to the ball late.

Lol okay. You have no idea. Ever heard of Lake Travis football? Did I play soccer at a high level? Nope, I was too busy winning three straight state championships in football. The fact you are so wrapped up IMO just shows you obviously just sit at home constantly refreshing the boards waiting to use your tears as lube everytime someone has your back in that Matic responded like a normal footballer and not one who obviously doesn't care about the team and is willing to get suspended.

Oh, you are using ESPNFC has a "reliable" source.
I think we're done here.
