Dell trades 2 1st round picks for a young all star on a long term deal and he gets shite on for years for it.
Then he trades 1 1st round pick for Asik and everyone shits on him because he's not on a long term deal.

Pat Riley trades 2 1st round picks and half his bench for an almost 30 guard who couldn't make the Allstar team even in his prime and who is only under contract for 3 months and everyone in the media is blowing him.

What gives?

Heat bench has been awful, so why not send most of it packing. Whatever it takes to get a PG they desperately need.

Fair enough, but even then, just look at the trade as just Cole and 2 firsts and my point stands

You've spinned this nicely

Try this

Pat Riley uncovered the gem that is Hassan Whiteside

Dell Demps has discovered Jeff Withey and Greg Stiemsma

2 Reasons:

1. Miami, if healthy, would be a very scary team. Probably not a title contender, but very good.

2. Timing

You can easily question the health factor, giving Dragic a 5 year max, and unloading an unprotected 2021 1st. But Riley won't be there in 6 years. They're going for broke at the tail end of the career of the best player in franchise history.

They capped themselves out with a proven, if somewhat diminished foundation. The Pels capped themselves out with just the idea of a foundation.

At least be fair about it. Dell Demps discovered Ayon, Ajinca and Babbitt.

As to the OP, are these Miami's own picks? 6 and 10, especially when 10 was in the "best draft since LeBron and Melo" vs. 2 picks in the late teens is pretty different.

I agree that it's a good trade for the team to get better for right now, but I feel like he's not getting any flack for sacrificing the future for a non gauranteed player.

I see your point about going all in for wade, hadn't thought about that perspective.

This is another thing I can't seem to find, what year are the picks for and are they miami's? Cause if they're for 2018 or later then they very well could be a lottery team in those seasons with an older injury prone core.

Very true about the picks being less valuable as ours were though

The 2nd one is a 2021 unprotected pick. That's very interesting.

I feel like the first one is a 2017 or 18 pick because they owe earlier picks. Not sure about the protections.

Dragic will likely re-sign. If the rumors about his list are true, Miami will max him out and he will take it.

Which may be a compounding of errors

You have more margin for error in the East.

Yep. That 4th/5th year will likely be a poor return of investment

I wouldn't take it for granted if I were the Heat though.

Miami, if healthy, is nowhere near as good as the Pels when healthy.
