travis fredricks did a shitty bench. they trained for power and explosion at Wiscy, not max reps

That's weak. Needed to be at least mid twenties as a lineman. That's one of the questions they had about him was upper body strength. Hope GMs look at the tape more than the press numbers. Heard a while back that Moffet doesn't really like bench press. Probably why our guys always have poor numbers there come combine time. It's hard to not consistently bench, and then train for a month and expect those numbers to blow up all of a sudden.

bet some of the people he pancaked this year (and there were lots) could put up more than 21 reps. So much more to OL play than BP reps.
You are correct Sir/Ma'am/Whatever!

LSU players never put up big bench press numbers. Moffit has said he doesn't focus on it

I think it has limited usefulness as a measuring tool. If nothing else, I think it says more to scouts about who has been putting out in the college weight room for 3-5 years and who has not. Had La'el only done 8-10 reps THEN I think it might be an issue.

I think the amount of bench pressing 225 all in a row is a bad gauge of strength. I bet his single rep max is right there with most top guys. It's not like he will have a play snapped every 1/2 second. Why not let them bench 300-350 and give them 20 seconds between each rep. Time how fast each rep is and judge which lineman's explosion slows down the most after 10-15 reps. I think that would be more accurate. Moffit trains for football explosiveness not how many reps in a row. Ask opposing DL if Collins wasn't one of the strongest OL they played against. Lol

To me it says if this man gets stronger than how good will he be?
This exersize doesn't tell me how strong he is. I've worked out all my life and I could out max some guys with a single rep but they could lift 225 more times in a row than me. He's strong as hell I can promise that much.
Posted on 2/19/15 at 5:35 pm to NorthEndZone
I can press up a lot of weight and I'm weak as hell. Short arms.

I bet Erick Flowers will turn out to be poo poo in the league as well! Screw the BP. It's retarded
Posted on 2/19/15 at 7:44 pm to jtran1988
EXACTLY. Show me a deadlift, clean, or squat. Better yet, show me the film where the frickin guy has been awesome on the field.
Posted on 2/19/15 at 8:20 pm to NorthEndZone
He plays pissed off. I watch pissed off. We'll do great things.
Posted on 2/19/15 at 8:57 pm to NorthEndZone
so let's forget everything that he did in the field because he not a professional bench presser
Posted on 2/19/15 at 9:26 pm to NorthEndZone
It's part of the protocol but let me assure you, that in the case of OL, the film of Collins destroying DL from the SEC, Big10, ACC, Big12 and Notre Dame the last 4 years is the proof in the puddin' the NFL is looking for. Winning the Jacobs Trophy as the best OL in the best conference in the history of College Football is more proof in the pudding. La'el will do just fine come draft time.

Bench means very little in football.
You should let all the NFL coaches, gms, and scouts that they're wasting time
They don't look at it in a vacuum, but its useful

Not good. Not bad. It's fine.
When he gets his hands on someone, he sure doesn't seem like a middling level blocker, that's for damn sure.

There have been players threw up 40-50 reps and still suck.
name two.
throwing up 50 may have happened at some weight lifters competition, but a football player good enough to be at the combine?
