So basically, wait til next year.
Again.
All I know is we've exited the JOB era with no tourney appearances. We're about to exit the M&M era with no tourney appearances. We enter the Simmons era next. How do think it will end?

I definitely think Odo should have been playing the whole time. Dude sucks in many areas but he can rebound the ball and play average defense. This is the one thing CJJ has pissed me off about, Darcy over Odo

Coaching? This is a repeat of Dale Brown coached teams. Dale could recruit. No doubt. But this is the same ole story with LSU Basketball
Don't even mention the 2 together. Do you know how many post season runs we had under Dale? Sweet 16's? Elite 8's? Final 4's? I'm not confident we'll ever even make the tourney under JJ. And the SEC is down. It was a much better conference when Dale coached.

Exactly what "era" is that? A fricking era, are you kidding me!?!? JOB was a 2nd round draft pick. NEWSFLASH TO ALL OF TD!!! Mickey NOR Martin will be a 1st rounder this year. So our era is a 2nd round draft pick one year, and then a player who will be undrafted this year if he goes and another who is a 2nd rounder. That's an era? Simmons is an era because he's a top 3 pick.
Once again, it's amazing how much people overrate Mickey and Martin. Not to mention 2 years is not an era.
JOB had a walk-on Tuba player next to him for a year

I love how our fans down-play our talent- the same talent being talked up nationally- just to make their point.
Amazing.

I hate the excuse that basketball isn't like football...everyone judges things off of UK, Duke, Kansas, UNC. We are none of those teams!!! We need 3-4 year players and we have several, but they're freshmen and sophs right now.
No, we're not comparing ourselves to UK, Duke, etc. That would be silly. We merely think it's reasonable to finish in the top 5 of the SEC and get NCAA tournament bids more often than not.
And once again, the "freshman and sophomore" excuse just doesn't fly in basketball. It just doesn't.

Of course it does. Why doesn't it? Because of Kentucky and Duke? UCONN won last year because of their Senior guard play.
Let's talk about 2 years ago with Russ Smith and Peyton Silva balling their asses off and winning the championship.

Coaching?

Dale brown wasnt worth a shite as game coach either. There is a solution.....smart game asst coach

Plain and simple. If the coach is telling them what to do and the players do not execute I cannot pin all of that on JJ. Just sayin'.
Or maybe we need a coach that players respect enough to actually listen to?

It is absolutely ok to mention the two together. JJ played for him, coached for him and used his help to get the job which is all fine. But Dale pushed this hire because JJ is his guy and Dale has influence. And JJ's teams are so far no more prepared or disciplined than Dale's. Just like Dale's teams they win off of raw talent without player development and without sideline decision making.
At some point if LSU wants to have a legitimate chance to have a program that is a real threat to win national championships or play at a national championship caliber clip it will have to have a coach who can combine recruiting with great coaching IQ. We didn't have it with Dale and we don't have it now. All of the other clowns who have coached this team since Dale are not even worth the time to type their names.
Why are so many LSU fans willing to settle for such average to below average expectations of our basketball program than they are for Football or even Baseball programs?

It was a lazy hire by the LSUAD. It has paid off with recruiting but, at this point in year three, has been mediocre at best with on the court results. Auburn got Bruce Pearl. We got the guy from North Texas

Took Dale Brown 7 season to make the tournament.
It is easy to nostalgicly look at Brown's tenure as LSU's coach, but he did not finish with a winning SEC record till his 6th season. He did not make postseason play till his seventh season.
He had 3 straight years of making the sweet 16, but the other 22 years of coaching, he made it to the sweet 16 only 1 time.
Dale Brown was a great coach for LSU, but it didn't happen overnight. Why do we expect this to happen overnight? We are better than we were last year. And last year was better than the year before.

You're confusing perennial national championship expectations with above .500 conference record expectations.
I don't think anyone is angry because LSU isn't a national championship contender with this group of players. They're angry because this group is fighting tooth and nail to be above .500 in a weak conf. You can't honestly say that Ark., Ole Miss, A&M are SIGNIFICANTLY more talented than this LSU team (young or otherwise)

Dawas not a very good game coach, but he could recruit and fire up players--I don't see JJ doing much firing up on the sidelines--perhaps he is hoping for a leader to emerge from the players. The problems we have are the same every game, poor interior defense, free throw shooting, and outside shooting. The off rebounds we give up are atrocious--If martin & Mickey think they are ready for the NBA, they need to watch some game tape--no way are they ready--I hope they dont have entourages whispering in their ear.

1. it isn't as hard to make the tournament now with an expanded field
2. Are we giving Johnny Jones a pass for collecting talent even though he's underachieving?

College hoops isn't about years to turn a program around. It's about talent and coaching. When Dale began to get talent, he won and it increased rapidly. Johnnys getting talent now. The inconsistency is mind-blowing. Play great vs Kentucky (last year and this) then suck vs Auburn and State. I want so badly to "like" this team and coach- they seem to fight against that regularly.

Seriously, college basketball is as good as it has ever been. The reason they expanded the field was because there are some very good teams getting left out because of automatic bids. Last year a 7-seed played an 8-seed in the National Championship. That is proof of how deep college basketball currently is.
