I can understand why Beck doesn't do it for everyone, especially his more recent stuff, but it stuns me that there are people in this thread and on social media that have never heard of him. Even my 61 year old father likes Devil's Haircut.

Like I said, I went into it almost wanting to hate it so I could shite on him for being an a-hole.
Instead I came away impressed and all I got to see was the nerfed festival version of his show.

Beck Hansen has 5 grammy's and he is a true artist that writes/produces almost all genres of music.
Hell I think Beck writes and produces better original hip hop songs than Kayne.

The Academy was never going to give it to Beyonce. I had a feeling going in Beck was going to win. Good for him. The only other contender was Pharrell and I didn't think they'd give it to him 2 years in a row.
Kanye needs to go away. I was so sad to see him and Paul McCartney sharing the same stage.

About as 'passable' as Michael Jackson who actually has piano credits on records like 'Don't be messin Round'. Smokey says he can pound at the keys enough to show an actual pianist a chord change that he could not hum out or to help him hear a melody he has imagined. Smokey Robinson was taught a few chord changes & to read a few musical notes from Berry Gordys 1st wife ,but he is basically musically 'illiterate' compared to the studio musicians he employed at Motown.
Teddy Riley says Michael Jackson demonstrated the same skils to him at the keyboards as a lesson to the younger Riley on how to develop your ideas/chord changes. Composition lesson from Michael.
That's far from being 'passable pianist' when neither one(Jackson nor Robinson) could actually perform as a professional(Unlike a passable multi -instrumentalist like Gaye who was no virtuoso, but could play professionally on drums or piano & did occasionally).
I'm not a hip -hop fan ,but I was only addressing 'can he play an instrument?" crowd .
Again does the guy who sits in his mothers basement for hours upon hours learning an instrument & can easily work professionally a 'true musician' & the barely competent piano 'pounders' like Smokey Robinson/Jackson not?.
I'm just pointing out how good 'instrumentalist' is confused with this dismissive 'true musician' .
