I got a mountain bike for free on craigslist. When it was stolen in front of Mimi's in the marigny I gave no shits.

Got a great deal from a post on a facebook swap page.
A lady was selling a double-strand, graduated cultured pearl necklace for $50. It was in the original case from Fuji Pearl Company in Ginza, Tokyo. They were her mother's pearls, but she said she never dressed up and didn't want or need them. I asked her if she was sure she didn't want to keep them, but she said she'd rather have fifty bucks than a necklace she'll never wear.
After purchasing the necklace, I made some inquiries on a pearl forum. The necklace dates to the 1930's, and the pearls are very high quality. At a minimum, it was valued at $750, but it could be worth much more.
Yesterday, my husband and I went shopping for some pearl stud earrings to match the necklace. The jeweler told us that the pearl necklace is excellent quality and that it is very difficult to find such quality these days. We ended up paying more for a pair of stud earrings than the necklace cost me.

I check Craigslist and some of those Facebook groups usually once a day or so. I'll flip anything I can make a profit off of, car parts, motorcycles and parts, ATVs, etc. Bought an HD springer front end for $750, sold it on EBay for $1250. Bought an ATV with some issues for $300, parted it out and made $1200. That took time but was worth it. I picked up an ATV once for $100, it was in worse shape than I hoped, pressure washed it, sold it for $400 12 hours later. Odds are if I'm contacting you about something for sale you should double check your prices because odds are I'm going to make money off of you.
Occasionally I buy stuff for myself for what it's worth. Found a $900 Trek mountain bike that had been used twice. Guy was asking $750 and I was able to talk him down to $450. When he showed up to meet me he threw in a Thule truck bed rack($250 new) and a Garmin bar mount GPS($450 new). Ended up keeping the rack and use it often and eBayed the GPS for $300. One of my favorite deals.

I bought a barely used travel trailer, used it for 2 years, then sold it for $500 more.

I have bought and sold cars on eBay and Craigslist. My favorite was when I bought a 1993 Lexus SC300 for $7k, this was in 2000 and I was living in SF where Craigslist had basically just started. Anyway, the lady had it listed for $10k and I worked her down. Drove the car for a little over a year and then sold it on Craigslist for $9k

Storage auctions are good too but so much work and most of the types that default on storage units are straight nasty. I've found good stuff in the past but it can be like having a second job if you do it enough.
Yuuuuup

I got a (roughly) $600 Malcolm Furlow painting off eBay for $30. Framed and everything. Judging from the seller's website, I think she specialized in estate sales.
I got a 2 year old Trek EX 9.5 from some Tulane kid for $100. I took it to a tune up shop and they guys said the bike was virtually flawless and it was a hell of a steal. Naturally, a year or so later, the garage/shed was busted into and it was stolen.

Just bought an 04 Z71 Tahoe off Craigslist. Has 140K miles and only gave 7500 for it. Probably could sell for 10-11K right now.
The most anyone would give me on a trade was $5600. I went to about 10 different places to check

Trade in value is terrible on those. But if it's clean, I guarantee they'll list it for around 10,500 or so.
