I pin my 8 month old shepherd when we play pretty regularly. He doesn't mind it and it keeps him pretty obedient. It's pretty rough and he bares teeth with me but I get him pretty worked up and he never bites hard.
He views my kids as equals right now. He listens to them but pretty begrudgingly. They're not quite big enough to take him down yet, but he's pretty good to not play that rough with them. Little nipping but has never bared teeth with them.

Pinning the dog on the ground makes me picture the South Park episode where Honey Boo Boo needs a pig heart. Like 90% of the OT is the farmer going:
THIS'N?! THIS'N RITCHERE?" And the rest of the OT is going "I'M GETTIN' A PIG HEART CAUSE IT MAKES ME SASSY!"
Also, the OT is really, really stupid.

No update from OP yet? Tried to warn him that the Chow wanted to tear his arse up. What OP didn't realize is that chow has been waiting for a reason to strike OP's neck from the moment OP stepped foot on chows property, Chow is laying in the bed next to his gf.

Is your dog TFM or NF? Would be good to know now that we've established he's alpha.

this has always been my policy too...and it has worked well...

I laughed...we have all been there....

Just caught this. Thread is still alive. I guess others are also giving suggestions for owners with stubborn dogs.
As far as my girlfriends dog. No, I did not try to hold him down. I did not want him to bite me and I know he would have. I followed other people's suggestions on how to deal with him. I made him sit at the door before I let him go outside. He refused and we would try again at a later time. I was patient. Took about 15 tries and several hours for his stubborn arse to realized he was not going outside until he sat. I then made him do the same for his dinner which he complied much quicker. When I walked him I made sure he followed my lead by holding the leash close to my body and behind me. I'm first in and out of the house and he is always last.
Does he obey my every command? Hell no. But he does listen more. We are back to the old routine of no leash when he needs to do his business. He comes most of the time I call him. There has been a huge improvement but it still a work in progress.
Thanks for the advice.
