And while there hasn't been a whole lot of talk yet about who will be competing to replace Holden, behind the scenes, potential candidates are evaluating the landscape for 2016. So far, state Sen. Sharon Weston Broome has emerged as a clear front-runner on the Democratic side.

Political experts say she'll be hard to beat. She will have very strong appeal to the growing demographic of black voters in East Baton Rouge Parish, who political consultant John Couvillon estimates will make up 45 to 47 percent of the voter population by 2016.

The black vote alone won't be enough to get Broome over the 50 percent mark, but there is also a voting bloc of white liberals in East Baton Rouge Parish, mainly concentrated around LSU.

By 2016 will she be running for mayor/president of ebr parish or simply mayor of the city of baton rouge? How is it going to work after the st. george split? And i think her being named the hard to beat frontrunner will only help the st. George effort.

No way will she live up to Kip's legacy. Can't believe his time is up, but will be great to have him at Lieutenant Governor.

Will she be another puppet for the rich white folk in BR and keep all of NBR "in check and happy"?

But does she have R. Kelly's endorsement? He does have the key to the city and a congregation of voters.

I met her when I was in High School, while she was a House Rep. She seemed likeable and smart. That's all I know about her.
