Anyone here have any transgendered friends?

Buddy of mine is transitioning from male to female and informed me of this about a year ago. He takes female hormones (and anti-depressants still, I believe) and is going by a different name.
However, he hasn't made much "physical" progress and still dresses and acts like a bro. Tomorrow is his birthday and we're taking him out. It is also the day he "comes out" as a woman in public.
Things haven't been weird because he still acts like a bro, dresses like a bro, talks like a bro, etc. I'm worried that tomorrow will be very strange for me, seeing him dressed like a woman and all.
I'm worried that I may not be able to shake seeing my friend dressed and acting like a woman. I'm worried that this may actually be the straw that breaks the camel's back and I'll peace out like our other friends, you know?
Male to female transgendered people have about a 1/5 suicide rate, so this concerns me greatly.
Anyone have experience with this?
Your thoughts, OT?
tl;dr version: friend is transitioning from male to female and still acts like a bro around the guys but apparently acts like a girl around the girls; tomorrow is his birthday and he is going to "be" a woman for the first time in public; Tornado Alley is confused and worried he won't be able to handle seeing his longtime friend switch genders in public

so he has been just a normal "bro" all this time, and tomorrow he is just going to all of a sudden start dressing and acting like a woman?
I don't believe any of this shite

Is he going to keep his penis in a jar, kinda like kids do with tonsils when they get yanked out?

Usually the transition happens over time, like Bruce Jenner, instead of a coming out party, right?

Most of my friends haven't chosen their gender yet

yes
a lot of people dress oddly , we all dress as we want to be identified.
better a transgender than some a-hole wearing affliction gear
