Long Article on Patrick Reed

Tldr, here are a couple of the highlights.
There are a lot of quotes from players and other teammates and no one seems to have a nice thing to say about him. I knew from watching him on TV that he had an attitude, but this article goes into a lot of depth about his past. Things I had never heard about. It would suck to be famous and have people dig through your past.

Patrick introduced himself to strangers by saying things like, “I’m Patrick Reed, and I’ll kick the shite out of you at golf any time you want,”

He grew up in my area. I didn't know him but know multiple people that did and played golf with him. None liked him at all.

I knew him from youth golf in Baton Rouge and through close friends that played with him in college and early in the pros.
He is a piece of shite. His UGA teammates voted him off their team. Think about that.
He disowned his parents and can't hold down a caddy so his wife has to caddy for him.
I have never heard one person say something nice about the guy other than he is good at golf. And I've had dozens of conversations with people about him.
ETA:
I hate talking shite about someone personally behind a computer screen, but this guy is, by all accounts including my own, just not a good person. So I don't feel that badly about it in his case.

Very interesting article.
Dude thrives in match play though.

How well-liked was he on the Ryder Cup team? I'm sure guys didn't mind him as much, considering he was the best player.

I haven't read the article yet, but I will.
I rooted against Pat Reed most of last year after his "top 5" comments, but I knew he'd be good for our Ryder Cup teams. Why? Because under that type of pressure you want somebody out there with confidence in themselves. No one will ever doubt if Reed has confidence in himself or not.
Some of the highlighted stories I've read in this thread wouldn't mean much if they stood by themselves. I think the issue is there are many stories that paint the picture of Pat Reed. If he will simply eat a slice of humble pie instead of the chocolate pie that he apparently loves, things will work out better for him in the long run.

Ran into him a few times in high school and he didn't seem too bad just a little cocky. But everything I've heard about him after he left BR was that he is a POS. Now reading this article about his family and I kind of hate him now.

quote:
That led to the seventh hole, where Uihlein conceded a short par putt to Reed, and Reed refused to return the favor when Uihlein’s birdie attempt rolled up next to the hole. Uihlein, annoyed, stood over his putt and missed. The annoyance turned to rage as he swatted the ball into the nearby water, and Reed, now 4-up, knew he’d won the mental game.

I knew someone like this growing up.
Some people just revel in being an a-hole.

Never heard of him.
But I'm not much of a bowler.

The problem is that a lot of us that knew him aren't shy about talking about him. Was he kind of a dick? Yes. But he didn't rub me the wrong way nearly as much as some other people.
