but have no idea where to start.
Thinking London/Paris/Rome are the key cities that we want to hit, but would welcome other suggestions.
any tips/pointers? where to stay, what cities to avoid? what cities are tourist traps that can be skipped?
thanks!

Interlaken, Switzerland
Cinque Terre, Italy
Amsterdam
Florence, not Venice.
Rome is cool
Go to Croatia or Spain as well.

I'd stop in Cinque Terre and Florence, between Paris and Rome.

London is expensive, but there is a shite-ton to do. You could be there for weeks and still not do all you want.
Paris I was bored of after a few days, honestly. I'm sure there were some great things that I missed, but after the main attractions the biggest appeal was just good food, which you can find all over.
Rome I really enjoyed, would definitely go back. If you are into history or architecture you could spend weeks there and not get bored.
I'd highly recommend Munich, or just Bavaria in general.

London is ridic expensive and actually kind of overrated. Paris is cheaper, the food is way better, and I didn't think the people were bad.
Rome and Athens are kind of gross and dirty, but so much history that you can't go wrong.
Favs are Barcelona, Prague, and Edinburgh.
Unless you're doing a Spain trip by itself, it's tough to cover Madrid, Seville, and things like that if you want to see other parts of Europe. I wouldn't bother with southern Spain unless it's nice weather. Lisbon, Portugal is a dump.

I've heard that the Venetian in Las Vegas is really nice.

Egg start in London and use that eurotrain to get across Europe. Pick travel in non peak hours like 10 am and later in the evenings. You pay a lot less. Good luck

Damn, how could you be into history and architecture and not enjoy Paris?
I could spend an entire week at the Louvre; been there twice and still haven't seen some of their most famous pieces.

I'd start in Ireland, make a short trip to Scotland and play a few rounds. Jump over to Germany for a while and drink some beers and then, well, that's really all I need to see in that old shite hole. Get back to good America.

I was there for about three days and had seen all I really wanted to see. Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, another modern art museum, Notre Dame.
I'll give them that the food was great, and I found the people to be very nice as well.

Never been... it's not super high on my list either.
Belgium, Spain, Prague, and Croatia/Albania I think are at the top now.

Guy I work with is always raving about Dubrovnik. I thought he was full of crap until I saw a show about it.

Modern by European standards. They had to rebuild it in the 50's and 60's.
