Another couple wants us to go on a short trip to New Orleans with them. I'm looking at maybe April so we can hit up French Quarter Fest.

Any suggestions on best places to stay? Wouldn't mind finding a house in quarter we could rent together. Want something somewhat close to everything since the other lady is pregnant and probably won't want to walk all over the place.

NOT the Ambassador Hotel. That place is a heaping pile of shite.
Watch over your shoulder, carry your wallet in a front pocket, and bring a couple bullet proof vests and y'all should be just fine.

Enjoy NOLA!

You'd better find something with a great balcony view. Sounds like most of your time will be spent at the hotel.

Besides FQF, there's also the Indy Car races that weekend at NOLA Motorsports, so be prepared to pay a premium on hotels.

I hear there are a few good spots under the approach to the crescent city connection.

Depending on your budget, I would suggest Windsor Court, The W on Poydras(might be Le Meridian now) or the lower end option The Westin.
Only suggesting that end of the the quarter area as it might be way to crowded on the other end for your prego wife to want to get into. The fest has some stages out on the river that are more manageable.

And yes, prices from now through the end of May are pretty damn high in N.O. for the most part.
Lots of people like to visit for some reason.

Here is my $0.02:

Westin Canal Place – modern, great views (ask for a room high up with river view), hooked to a high end mall, decent location (edge of French Quarter)

Intercontinental on St. Charles – more modern and decent location (edge of French Quarter)

The Roosevelt – traditional old New Orleans (think small, older rooms), great location French Quarter,

The Monteleone - traditional old New Orleans (think small, older rooms), great location French Quarter

The W French Quarter – has the quirky W flare but older small rooms with great location French Quarter

we rented a place in the quarter off of VRBO.com, it was a great location. Right across from Rouse's supermarket and right down from Pat O's--corner of st peter and royal (I'm pretty sure it was)
