Mainieri basically said we'll win the title as long as the players get the job done and don't screw it up.
No, he didn't. And your post is an example why I hesitate to even mention what I hear. You twist words into something totally different from what was said and you make it sound like you know exactly what was said and how it was said.

Mainieri said at the meeting last night this team is the most talented group of players, top to bottom, that he has had at LSU.

He cautioned the big unknown is will the players work hard enough and believe in themselves enough to put their talent to work.

He said if they do, we're going to Omaha.

And incidentally, the entire team was there at the meeting and they heard his words. I tried to watch them as he was speaking to see how they were reacting to what he was saying and not a one of them showed any reaction....all sat completely pokerfaced. Bregman was sitting three seats from me and he never took his eyes off of PM while Mainieri was speaking.

I spoke to Jared Foster before the meeting started and asked him about his surgically repaired foot that forced him to miss fall practice. He said he's 100%, no pain at all.

I wasn't able to go to the meeting because I've been SOOOOO busy. I'm closing on some real estate in NorCal and I hate that I missed it. ANYWHO, I sent a proxy in my place and he said the exact same thing. Great job, Ruski!

How did you interpret that as throwing players under the bus? You must have never played baseball? When that I played, I loved to hear comments like that. It would light a fire in us.

Russian, I already said in the post on the first page that I take your word for it since you heard what he said and further explained that I was concerned about that because of Mainieri's past. You clarified that that was not his intent. So, as far as I'm concerned, the issues can be laid to rest as to what Mainieri may have meant.

That being said, I am still allowed to explain the point of view to those that would attack me personally in this thread, however, and I won't hesitate to do so.

And I appreciate that you gave the benefit of the doubt to someone who was there and heard what was said and how it was said.

But then you follow it up with another post that totally twisted the words to fit your "I don't like Mainieri" agenda.

Yes, you should express your point of view. But don't do it by making up shite that has no correlation to reality.

It was obvious that even though Mainieri was addressing the boosters, his remarks were intended to challenge and fire up the players. He had just told them they were the most talented players he's had at LSU and then he challenged them to play up to their ability.

He also challenged the coaches (himself included), who were all in attendance, to work smart and hard to help the players develop and get the most out of their abilities.

The meeting last night was a mini-pep rally, for lack of a better term, to get everyone.....players, coaches and fans, fired up for team practices to start tomorrow and to get ready for 3 weeks from tomorrow when Kansas comes to the Box.

Instead you interpret what I wrote to fit your pre-concieved idea that PM was throwing players under the bus. It was not like that at all.

Your comments exhibit the "Catastrophe Syndrome" that Saban complained about LSU fans having when he was coaching here. Too many LSU fans of all sports expect, and maybe even secretly hope for sometimes, something bad to happen just so they can say, "I told you so."

It gets tiring and it's bullshite to read it continually on this board.

I completely agree with your post. I think he's ready for baseball season as much as the rest of us and can see the talent we just pulled in this class.

I'm going to again extend you the benefit of the doubt that perhaps you didn't understand what I was doing. The poster basically called me an idiot and didn't understand how the comments could be interpreted how my first post did. The post you keep going off on was only explaining how easy it is to come to that conclusion. With that gloss, basically the entire quoted section above doesn't make sense. Especially when you are confronted with the fact that I like Mainieri. I don't like when he buries players at pressers, but I think he is a great coach.

Well put.

I've never seen PM so energized.

At the same time he wanted everyone to know there will be some growing pains. But he kept repeating the theme that if everyone does their part, coaches included, this coming season has the potential to be really, really special.

I also got a chance to meet and speak with our new coach, Andy Cannizaro. It was only for about 10 minutes but I can see why PM wanted him. He's got an enthusiasm about baseball that's contagious.

There will definitely be growing pains and I think most of it will be in pitching this year and figuring out where everyone fits. I'm sure the coaching staff knows what they want, but like you said, there's growing pains because of the youth at the position and the fact that the new guys just have that much talent to come in and start right away.

hcb is banned. He can't downvote you.

I think the biggest pains will be at catcher where we won't have the defensive presence we are used to. Chinea and Scivique are okay and Pap is definitely the future if not someone who can step in right away and be better than those two.

I trust Alan Dunn so much when it comes to the pitching. It's more about him getting these guys ready for the college grind. They definitely have the stuff and talent.

Who has the inside shot at getting the majority of the innings at this point? Or does this have platoon written on it?
