re: What is so good about Majora's Mask?

I bought MM the day it came out. Me and a buddy had a contest to see who could finish it faster. I won, but I think I really missed a lot of what the game had to offer. With OoT, I would spend hours exploring Hyrule. With MM, the constant time constraint made me feel rushed. I really need to go back and play this game. Hopefully they come out with a version for the Wii U. I tried playing it again years ago on the GameCube, but the controls felt strange.

Wasn't a fan. Felt rushed while playing and I don't like that. Felt like Tom cruise in Edge of Tomorrow and it becomes frustrating. I understand it's needed for the Experince of the game, but just not for me.

Is that why you and MJ take 12 years to loot a goddamn chest in borderlands?
Posted on 1/22/15 at 11:16 am to LewDawg
Nope. It's just an act to keep the losers from wanting to play with us.

its because the banker stamps link with his amount after every transaction. So when he goes back in time, he is essentially stealing money.

So Link basically has a card that says what he has then goes to the bank at whatever time and can withdraw that amount? Like an IOU?

Same.
Oddly, my Dad brought and purchased MM for me the day of release. He never done stuff like that, especially on a video game. I'm guessing he was drunk, only time he would buy anything for us.
None the less, he then proceeds to bitch all the way back home on how I "conned" him. Something about how he was just bringing me purchase the game with my money, but that I knew he wouldn't let me pay for it. Then somehow he brought the N64 Expansion Pack, and I knew he would buy both for me. IDK if I even knew what the Expansion Pack was and defiantly had ZERO knowledge the upgrade was needed.
He was really pissed about the Expansion Pack.

It was Nintendo making a political statement about the social security pyramid scheme. That's all.

I was smart and got mine with my copy of DK64.

Expansion Pack
Nothing like paying $25.00 for 4MB extra RAM.
Even more surprising, it made a difference.

The first time you are transported to the Moon, then take the first few steps on an open meadow with Skill Kid sitting under a single large tree was amazing. The scene would later become the best memory from gaming as a kid.
It was one of the first times a video game made you feel real life emotions. The Skull Kid, surrounded by others, but alone.. just like the single tree in the single field on the equally lonely moon.

I vividly remember my dad and I getting back from Blockbuster with MM only to realize we needed the expansion pack to play. He was pissed and I was sad until he finally calmed down and realized he was being an arse for being mad about driving literally a block down the road.

I was managing a Blockbuster Video at the time, so I just stole one from there.

The reason I love the game is that it is the most apocalyptic and debatably darkest game of all time.

n short, Majora's Mask is the Groundhogs Day and Empire Strikes Back of video games.
You really hit the nail on the head with these. I'm a fan of OoT first and foremost, but the vibe of Majora's Mask is something I can't describe. I still remember the creeping feeling of stress on that third day. I think it is so beloved because it was so different and still maintained that fun factor.
What intrigues me the most is that it really shines a light on how many "subplots" there are all around you every day and how much you can vastly affect the lives of other in simple ways. Whether it's delivering a letter at the right time or some other trivial task, it may have major implications in someone else's "story". I always enjoyed that.

You had to process dungeons as modules due the resists, you wouldn't clear a dungeon.
The impending doom felt from the 3day duration and total destruction by the moon made the story/quest feel real.
