And his career OBP is like 366.
Altuve only touched that in what will be his career year.
Again, no one is arguing against that. Would you agree that most would take Altuve's career .340ish OBP for 650 ABs per year with 35+ SB and above average glove at 2nd base over Fowlers .366 OBP in 450 ABs, 12 SB and below average CF glove?
Calling Altuve's season last year his career year isn't going out on the limb much. How many players have multiple .340 BA with 50+ SB seasons in their career?
Edit because Altuve graded pretty low with the glove last season too. I was wrong about him having a good glove.

Cubs get a 28 year old, who has average numbers in hitters parks.
And the Stros got screwd? lol

Fowler is this generations Griffen jr.

quote:Nice observation. What it does for the Cubs is takes that OBP production from third base and moves it to CF and the top of the lineup. And it opens the door for Kris Bryant.
Fowler's a walker. That's his skill.
Valbuena had an OPS about the same as Fowler.
Trade looks good for both teams to me.

Astros can now have an elite level CF defensively in that huge CF at minute maid park. Fowler was a butcher. No range...horrible arm.
Posted on 1/19/15 at 2:10 pm to Tiger Ryno
Cubs just snagged them a substandard defensive OF, but he's an awesome OBP guy for fewer than 100 games per year.
Posted on 1/19/15 at 2:12 pm to Tiger Ryno
I didn't realize Fowler wasn't that great defensively. Any numbers to that?

Fowler is this generations Griffen jr. Trade rape
Posted on 1/19/15 at 2:14 pm to Tiger Ryno
He's the injury prone Griffen Junior with the nice OBP and without the everything else.
Trade rape. U mad. Solid melt. Butt hurt.

You think I'm melting? I hate fowler. He is a butcher in the field.

I find it fitting that the Cubs are dumping their third baseman on us so they can make room for the prospect we passed on. At least we got Mark Appel. Woo?

I don't give a shite about the Astros. I'm a Cubs fan. You're such a freakin moron

I'm not saying Fowler is better. Just pointing out that Fowlers limited ABs had nothing to do with his high OBP, because it was right around his career average. That is who he is
I do expect Altuve to come back down to earth a little.

I'm hoping you're wrong. I still think he hits over .300 this year.
Posted on 1/19/15 at 4:05 pm to lsusportsman2
Yea .300 hitter, I don't think he repeats .340
Posted on 1/19/15 at 4:26 pm to Lester Earl
I like this trade. Finally moving past dominguez. Hes had enough time. Valbuena is trending up and at .249, he out hits Dominguez.
Now I'm holding out for a Castro/Dominguez/Santana for Hamels trade

I got ya. Miscommunication between us. I wasn't suggesting Fowlers high OBP was because of limited ABs either. I could have worded that better if that's how it reads. He is that good at the plate, no question about that. I was trying to point out that, regardless of how high it is, his team will only get 450 ABs out of him which dampens his value when compared to someone who will be able to play everyday.
