I would recommend Dominican Republic all-inclusives as opposed to Mexico. That's just me.
This. The Punta Cana Excellence Resort was awesome. Great price, good food and drinks, full bar in your room, fun activities, etc. We never needed to leave the resort. The flight wasn't bad either.

Did Live Aqua in Cancun for mine, strongly recommend it, had a great time, several nice restaurants and bars on site. Never have to leave unless you want to go fishing or something like we did.

So I guess with all the high end all inclusives, you really can't go wrong?? That's kind of the feeling I'm getting.

Anyone ever been to Karisma's El Dorado Maroma or Viceroy Riviera Maya?
Trying to decide between these two and Excellence Playa Mujeres.

If someone put a gun to my head and said I HAD to go to Mexico (pun intended), I'd opt for Cozumel and never leave the island.
Presidente Intercontinental
But not Mexico, not now.
Bad things have, can and will happen there and a single Gringo (with a Gringette) has no help there.

Pretty much. A lot of them are very similar. I'd look at TripAdvisor reviews, photos, and prices to narrow it down.

Yes! You won't regret it at all

Did you stay on site the whole time or did you venture out into cancun or playa del Carmen? Could you go scuba diving in Cozumel or something like that?
We stayed there most of the time, there are a lot of great activities and PLENTY of restaurants to choose from at night.
Be aware this resort is about 30 minutes north of Cancun. We did venture out into the town, as well as several different excursions throughout Mexico. My advice would be to just wait and see what you want to do after arriving. The hotel lobby has a downstairs area for all the agencies booking excursions and they will be more than happy to set up your transportation.
Check the Honeymoons Inc website for prices, they were well over a $1,000 cheaper than booking through the resort and included a taxi to and from the airport.

Just got back from the Yucatan, 3 nights in Playa then drove 4 hours south almost to Belize and stayed another 4 nights. I never felt uncomfortable. I felt safer there than at the mall in Baton Rouge...

Playa del Carmen
Not as "Americanized" as Cancun but not so isolated. Some of the all inclusives outside of Cancun are really nice...but really isolated. You couldn't just walk out of resort and explore the area. You would have to rent a car or hire a car to leave resort. Stay near 5th Avenue so you can walk and explore all the shops/bars/restaurants there. Also...the ferry to Cozumel is right by there. You can take the ferry to Cozumel and spend the day there(if you are a diver...you want to dive in Cozumel from what I hear...very good diving there).

I was there last year and felt safe. Just don't be a dumb tourist. Don't wear flashy stuff to make yourself an easy target. Tell the woman to leave the nice jewelry at home. Be aware of your environment at all times. Don't go walking the streets late at night. Basic common sense type stuff.
