if a chiropractor can call himself/herself "Doctor" than a dentist sure as hell can.

The word you are looking for is physician (someone who graduated from medical school).

A dentist is a doctor, but not a physician.

Advise him to tell his DDS the next time he goes in for an exam - she/he will be gentle.

Actually the first doctors were theologists. Medical doctors hijacked the term sometime later.

Yes they are. They may not be medical doctors or a physician, but they most certainly hold a doctorate in their field.

Yes, but they are still not doctors. My wife happens to be a PT.

No they are just as much doctors as physicians are. They're just not MEDICAL doctors.

This is what I told him. I used to work in a dental clinic and the doctors would all get pissed off if they were told they aren't a real doctor.

They are doctors. Just not medical doctors. There are all kinds of doctors.

My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon last year who was an MD as well as a DDS. I asked my dentist about it and he said that all new dentists licensed in Louisiana must now also be MDs. The grandfathers of course are grandfathered in.

I'm not a PT. I don't work in the medical field at all, actually.

Just stating facts here.

Don't believe that is true.

Oral surgeons go to both dental school and medical school.

And that is why they make the big bucks.

So they also have to go to med school? That doesn't make sense
