Leap year son and you need 2. Also, with just 23 random people there is a 50/50 chance that 2 will have the same birthday.

Like same month and same day, or just day of the month?

they're thinking about themselves and not considering everyone else in the room. they're thinking "if i meet 366 people, it's not 100% guaranteed one will share my birthday just b/c there are 365 days in a year." and that's correct. but it's everyone in the room relating to each other, not just you.

I've been waiting a full 30 hours now for my mind to be blown and it hasn't happened yet.

It is a statistical possibility they none of them would share a birth date.

So no two people out of a million share a birthday??? Is that what you're saying?

I think you are giving them WAY too much credit but now that you mentioned it they will probably use it as an excuse.

That's how I first interpreted their reasoning when I first read a response like that in the thread.

How are people NOT getting this? It's like the old word problem that if you have a drawer half filled with blue socks and the other half is black socks, how many would you have to take out of the drawer to get a matching pair if the room was dark?

Not exactly the same but close. Semi-retards at minimum should get the similarity.

Exactly. The birthday thing is pretty much the same concept, just with 366 possibilities instead of 2.

Nah, I took those classes 18 years ago. I just needed a good topic to follow up MJ2s thread yesterday and thought this would be a good one.

Maybe you're not as smart as you think you are and they are assuming that this hypothetical is taking place on planet GU Psc b.

I think you owe some people some apologies.

The best part is if you had 50,000 much less 1 million you could have pairs that have the same actual birthday including year.

So with some people's logic in here, it's possible you could take out all the socks and not have a match.
