Wounded deer safe to eat?

Shot a deer that another guy wounded in the front leg the week before. Wound looked clean and had no smell but I'm iffy on eating it. Threw the wounded leg away. It just had a little yellow around it but was a light pink otherwise. Safe or no?

Sure
Usually the lactic acid will make them taste bad but nothing wrong with it. You can always make gumbo

It's probably okay, like said already may not taste the best.

huh? I'm fairly certain that it is not the lactic acid in the muscle fibers that will make the rotten/wounded area of flesh taste bad. Just saying.

Depends how bad the wound is. If it's a rotten stinking puss filled leg, I'd probably throw the whole thing away, chalk it up to a mercy killing. If it's not too bad and the rest of it looks kosher, then I'd give it a shot.

If the meat smells fine, I would eat it.

Would not chance it. I would hang the deer in the woods and night hunt it for pigs and yoders.

Not for me. Killed a big 8 pt my dad had wounded 4 days before (terrible neck shot through the meat only). It had flys and maggots in the neck wound, but would have survived had it not been walking across my plot when I got to my stand that afternoon.
Not worth the risk. I would give it away.

so, you won't eat it, but will give it to someone else to eat?

I'd eat it if the meat all looks(and smells) fine.

Yall are some tenderfoots. Use your judgment, if the meat looks good, eat it. If it looks bad, cut off the bad part and eat the rest.
