I know, I just like the sunshine.
Certainly not knocking Seattle. I would love to live there at some point in my life.

Best city in America. Just simply incredible. There's a ton of overcast days, and the rain isn't torrential, but the summers are epic as hell. If you like overcast days like I do, you'll love it

this was about Seattle or Portland?

Seattle
but I would imagine the same could and would apply to Portland

I dunno. I've never been. That sucks, tho.

Just that the locals are very cliquey. Isn't the term "Seattle Freeze" a real thing?
I find this to be somewhat true but mainly downtown. On the fringes of the city I find the people to be very warm and friendly. The "professional" scene downtown is kind of stuffy.

Sorry but according to this totally legitimate, non-biased, and accurate tournament, you're wrong.
100% Factually Correct

Youll end up blowing your brains out in a garage if you don't pick the right woman.

I can see how the constant traveling back to LA or the south would be a turn off for some. Doesn't really bother me much.
I've got an uncle who lives in the Kirkland area. I've asked him about areas in the city that are decent for someone my age. But his opinion is kind of warped. So I don't put too much stock in it.

I have family outside of Portland and it's amazing. They work in the wine industry in the Willamette valley which is about an hour west of Portland. They love the Northwest, live in a small town west of Portland
I can't give you an objective view of Seattle I've only spent a few nights there.
In Portland you would be within 2 hours of the Oregon coast, Columbia River Gorge, Mt. Hood, Multnomah falls, The dalles on hood river, Eugene Oregon, and the Willamette Valley (tons of good vineyards). If you like the outdoors there's great climbing, skiing, hiking, golf all within a 2 hour radius.
Portland has excellent craft beers as has been mentioned and there's some really good restaurants as well, but traffic can be a major pain.
Whoever says Portland is a shite hole doesn't have a clue.

I've lived here in the Pacific Northwest for the last 17 years. I'm a Georgia transplant and native LA'r.
- Cost of living has already been discussed. Yes, it's insane, but if you're willing to commute a little further, than that really opens up a lot of things. Traffic is bad.
- Weather. Seattle sits in the rain shadow of the Olympics. It's gray, misty, and yes, Louisiana get a shite ton more rain than Seattle. Heck, even down here in Olympia, we get close to 20 more inches a year than SEA. The summers up here are absolutely unbeatable. It doesn't rain for three months and you'll only get a few days over 90. Most of the time it hovers in the low 80's. T-storms are very few during the year. Maybe one or two big ones. Last rain occurs roughly first week of July, dry for three/four months, then once Oct. 15th hits, then the spigot gets turned on again.
- The People. Portland is weird and cool/hipsterish, but Seattle is a Passive-aggressive monster. Be prepared for culture shock having lived in the deep south. There's a reason it's called the "Seattle Freeze".
- Nightlife. Not a ton and the men to women ratio is incredibly skewed because of the nature of the industry up here.
- But...If you like outdoors shite, holy crap, it's awesome. Skiing, snowboarding, beaches, hiking, cycling all within a two-hour radius.
- And yeah, PDX is pretty awesome. Go visit it and the Willamette Valley, seriously. Then go to the coast to Astoria (Goonies), then Seaside. Go to Central OR, to places like Bend. Friggin beautiful state. I lived in PDX with my wife for a year.
And to close, we're all hopped up on coffee and beer
