Somewhat agree, but a DC needs to be in place for Spring ball.....

A bad coach is better than a terrible coach. I would rather have a good coach.

Wait, we have a new DC?

Just doing their due diligence and not leaving any stone un-turned. That's how it works in the land of grown ups.

Exactly... He's been underwhelming as a position coach. How does that warrant a promotion?

how does a last ditch hire mean someone is qualified?
These people also hired Malveto and thought "this is a good idea"

I'm hoping that Miles pulls a rabbit out of his hat with this hire, but after Pendergast and Shoop, I'd rather promote Brick on an interim basis and get our guy next year.
A bad coach parlayed into great coach is better than a good coach, IMO.
Not that I have any faith whatsoever that Brick has the requisite skill set, but I just don't see the slam dunk candidate to be had.

Would you promote one of your 72 employees with numbers like that?
There are many more factors I would take into account. Those production numbers you reeled off are not a sole reflection of the position coach. Players are responsible for their play as well. Why hasn't hunter produced at the level that Mingo had as a Tiger? Who's fault is that?
Haley? maybe
Hunter's? maybe
or maybe Mingo had a better work ethic
Is Haley at fault for D line exodus. he was working with a true frosh DT who was coming off of an ACL and 1st year full time starter at the other DT. I'd take that and alot more into consideration.
Your deviating from the OP though. lets stay on track

when brockers, mingo, and montgomery were here but that doesn't matter. My assessment of what I see from section 204 is irrelevant. My assessment of what I see while in a turkey coma from my couch on Thanksgiving night isn't relevant either.

This DC hire is beginning to show some parallel to the Malevto hiring. My understanding of that is once Pelini accepted the Nebraska job, Les tried to lure Muschamp from Auburn. Muschamp accepted the HCIW position in Austin instead which left Les empty-handed. So Malevto was promoted with the rationale ‘that it will continue what we’ve been doing on D under Bo.’ Not altogether bad rationale had Malevto been qualified. So fast forward, Les is empty-handed and promoting Brick ‘will continue what we’ve been doing on D under Chief.’
I don’t know if Brick would fail or not but I’ve seen nothing of his track record to suggest he would succeed. And this time, we’re not coming off a NC; we’re coming off the worst season of Les’s tenure. And the outgoing DC didn’t make a lateral move. IOW, almost all the buffer has been eroded.
IMO, there are still some potential upgrades (from Chavis) out there and it only takes one. Really hoping Les gets this right.

Mingo had 15 sacks in his career. For comparison, Myles Garrett had 11.5 in 2014.

I'm with you. Hope this happens but I see a Pelini-Maleveto-Chavis transition in the works here.

Is Haley at fault for D line . . .
IMO, yes. I agree that we shouldn't look at a single player or two.
Rather, it's his track record form '09-present that underwhelms. Our DL has rarely gotten pressure in and of itself in any of those years.
And surely he has input on who we sign as DL. If we're forced to play a true Fr at DT when there are multiple more experienced players on the roster (Bain, Gilmore, Johnson, Herron) ultimately that's on Brick.

so Garrett is a better pass rusher. what's that got to do with our DC position. are you saying if Garret was a tiger he would not have had 10 or more sacks? his sack totals are based on his pure ability to be a speed rushing freak. Lets see if those numbers improve over the next two years before we make too many ill informed judgments......but that's what this board does
How did the other DL perform on aTm's roster this year? How did Garrett do in run support? I'll answer, he was owned. Why did the other DL not perform? cause they suck..... so it had little to do with coaching and all to do with talent.
very bad comparison. coaching can only go so far and now you are overvaluing it by providing poor examples

I, on the other hand, will not bitch about the DC hire, no matter who it is (unless its Peveto). I am rational enough to know that whoever the guy is, he is qualified. John fricking Gruden could be hired and we have the worst DC in the SEC, but you morons who jerk to him would be in love from day 1. I'm going to let this play out and save my judgement for when there is actual objective data to warrant a judgement. 80% of you need to get the frick off this board, and do it now. End rant.
I agree. Everyone here acts like they are some sort of defensive gury who knows all the coaches around America. Just let it play out and fricking relax.

read it again but this time comprehend it. Miles has worked with Haley for quite some time. Haley has been under Chavis for 6 years. If he is hired, then he will have been determined to be qualified by those qualified to make that decision.
Ummm..no it doesn't mean he's qualified. It means they couldn't find a reasonable alternative and settled. Was this the same coach that felt Mallory and Peveto were worthy of the promotion back in 2008? I seriously have no idea how anyone can trust Les in hiring from within given his track record for doing so.

So we act like no it Alls , meanwhile you are telling us how we should be? Hmmmm interesting

So Haley had a disastrous stint as a DC and by your account, has not fielded an intimidating DL in 3 years... But by all means, lets not jump to conclusions if he is appointed the next DC.

Personally I think we should give Miles as long as it takes to compete for championships. After all, stuff happens, so you can't blame him for everything, plus we don't really know anything since we are not Coach Miles, plus remember the 90s, plus there's more to life than football, plus players leaving early, plus etc etc etc
Basically, LSU might no longer be in the upper echelon of football programs, and we should just be ok with that and never blame the coach.
