We really have problems if Alleva is meddling in these hires/contracts. As long as miles is the coach he needs to back the hell off. This team is poised to have a great run the next couple of years and we're going to get fricked by Alleva. At this point it just seems like he's trying to sabotage miles.

Bias. There is nothing at all to indicate that.

Alleva is a money man. That's it. He doesn't care about the quality of team we put on the field until its decline starts eating away at revenue. He wouldn't green light the firing or "demotion" of Crowton following 2009, and we lucked out after Maryland took him off our hands after 2010. I hope he stays out of this until it's time for his name to be signed on the contract.

There really are some ignorant people on this board. I assure you Joe Alleva is smarter than these posters.

I can see the issue from both sides. Here is the deal to me Pendergast is SMART NOT TO COME

If Les is already telling him he can't have the support he feels he needs to do the best job then Pendergast knows that will not be the ONLY NO he gets if he comes here.

Better for him NOT TO COME - Miles is the DC

Pendergast wants his own guys with him, none of whom have significant recruiting contacts in the deep south. Thanks, but no thanks.

I hear what you are saying, so the question to me is do you think it is easier for Pendergast to learn the recruiting ropes over here

OR

For Pendergast to get the assistant coaches he needs to install a successful defense. I choose the latter, but see your point.

but because our assistants just signed extensions that creates a real problem for Les to get the DC he wants

Anyone beating you down for this is a damn maroon.....he did cool to LSU. I don't know why....but if I had to guess I'd say it is the fact that Miles twiddled his thumbs on the decision (hard to tell if that was a good decision or bad one at this point....although personally I think a staff led by Pendergast that included Orgeron was the best option at least from the outside looking in..no one really knows) combined with the sheer number of things still shaking out in the NFL.

Really you think so. You decide then. If an employer hires you to do a job, whatever you are currently competent in, and then hobbles your attempts to do the job, how is that going to go?

Skilled management people see what will happen before it does, so I say he is smart to know he will not be in charge of the D, Miles will and in that case would be a fool to come

Noone has been hired. This is pure speculation not based in reality.

It is not bringing a whole staff that is the issue but not being able to bring anyone- extreme loyalty to existing staff hampers the process

A staff that Miles views as having done nothing wrong. An assistant coach is always hired by the head coach- not the coordinator. Remember all the o-line coaches Can wanted to bring in last year? Me neither, that's because their weren't any. This decisions are made by the head coach & head coach alone. There isn't a head coach hin the country that's going to cede that kind of authority to a coordinator.

The OP asked why the interest MAY HAVE cooled, no one said anyone was hired. It is speculation on my part as most comments here are.

Think of the process that would be hampered if Les had to drop all the guys who've been recruiting for him... right at the end of the recruiting cycle. No bueno.

I don't believe he's trying to sabotage Miles. I think it's more of an incompetence issue.

I am far from an Alleva apologist, but at some point you have to acknowledge the fact that Alleva has greenlighted having the highest paid asst coaching staff in the country.

At some point, it'd be within the realm of his duties to talk with Les about the spending spree on assistants and results on the field not currently trending with it. (albeit a short trend)

That said, pay Shoop whatever it takes!
