for more money?
its not about Miles or Sumlin or who has better players, facilities, etc
bottom line- dude is going to make 350/400k more per year for 3 years. that's a lot of money and is why he's leaving.
he aint stupid

Because this is an LSU website... You know, the team that he just left.

It's over and he's gone. Screw him, move on

For a guy that is getting up there in age, why wouldn't he want more for himself and his family????
Especially if he didn't get along with the administration, which we aren't sure of anyway.

Everyone understands why he would leave for more money, people are just wondering why he'd jump into a dumpster fire to get it.

Because it's still more money?

because the implication is that LSU was incapable of matching if you say it's about the money.
Yeah, A&M gave him a raise but LSU didn't match. That's not "about the money" like it would be if a Sun Belt coach got called to go coach at a graveyard like Vandy for 2m/year.
LSU either didn't want Chavis or Chavis didn't want LSU.
Y'all are committing the error of assuming no one else was courting Chavis. A&M didn't have to outbid LSU, they had to outbid other programs.

bingo
if dude is getting up there and has no intention of being a head coach, why not go make the most money wherever it may be. some people are just driven by money, plain and simple. as long as they do their job well, they might not care if its a dumpster fire or if A&M will ever play for a NC.
hell im not gonna lie, I like money and for 400k extra per year, ill go coach the school for the deaf and blind

Why couldn't we have paid him the same amount? We throw extra money at Miles all the time every time he seemingly flirts with another money. If Miles is worth ponying up extra cash, Chavis is as well no doubt.

because that isn't what was reported last night.

More money plus no state income tax doesn't hurt.

The problem I have is that he distracted the damn team and we lost to fricking ND yesterday because of his greedy arse. The team was very clearly not even close to being prepared to play and when the Offense finally shows up and scores some points, he shits the bed. Good riddance to him.

He was offered more money in the past and stayed. LSU wasn't going to give him anymore this year. Miles can't be fun to work with. He's gotta get tired of the terrible mistakes. He left because it was the right move.
He wasn't that great. He isn't worth his paycheck to begin with.

no. The implication is that LSU chose not to meet his demands.

You are talking in circles. Chavis left because of the money. LSU didn't match because of the money.

...when you consider he different offers (i.e. money)

There are no reports that other teams offered Chavis this year. Not that it would matter. A&M had to offer more than LSU (and any other team) was willing to offer.

Not really. It could be because he wanted more money but LSU didn't want to give it to him, not because LSU couldn't afford it.
Whether he left for another $300k a year or because he was tired of coaching for a team that is maddeningly incompetent on offense (therefore putting all the burden on him) is still up in the air.
He knows that his defenses were responsible for 3-4 wins a year and probably felt jilted that LSU didn't feel that was worth enough to match A&M's offer.

thats exactly what I said and this reply applies to the guy above you too.
someone saying "give me an extra year or I leave" and you saying no is saying you dont want him, which is what I said.
LSU didn't want chavis.
