I can't be faux-raged about this bc I don't know a ton of other female athletes that significantly achieved in 2014.

If you remember girls dominating sports in 6th grade, then your memory either sucks or you were a shitty athlete. Below average guys are way better than girls at sports.

yeah on an equal playing field.

Girls hit puberty before boys. We had several tomboys in 4th-6th grade that played on our sports teams and started and were good. By 7th/8th grade they were passed up with a quickness as every dude's balls began to drop.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

my exact point. everyone is OMG SO MAD but they haven't named a single other athlete that dominated, won multiple gold medals, won a national championship, etc.

I don't really give a shite, I just think its a bit absurd a little league chick is the female athlete of the year, especially in a year that contained an Olympics with American female gold medal winners.

Well give me that long list of girls who have dominated Little League Baseball/Pitching like Davis?
Obviously this list doesn't exist, and to be clear, I am not trying to diminish Davis' accomplishment. Her being the first is notable for sure, but it's overhyped given the general equality of pre-pubescent gender athletic abilities. The lack of forerunners in this is more a relection of lack of previous opportunity given discrimination (to some extent) and lack of acceptance of gender athletic parity before puberty.

I'm sure Davis is better than most girls, but this shouldn't be viewed as some landmark outcome. This could happen every year if opportunities were equal and a team with a girl pitcher had enough other talent to make its way to Williamsport.

You must be because I distinctly remember 6th grade PE.

I was one of 100+ boys who were better than girls at every sport we played. The best girls equaled a weaker version of a mediocre guy.

Thanks for your 'non answer'. No girl has ever dominated in the LLWS because its not as easy as common/easy as you pretend.

Read MetArt's last post.

And I'll repeat, its LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL. Do you realize how big of a deal an Olympic Gold Medal is? Do you? Its the ultimate pinnacle in athletic achievement.

It dates back hundreds of thousands of years.

And you are saying a female pitcher in little league baseball is more deserving. Its just ludicrous to me.

but it was landmark because it was the first time (or at least the first in a very long time, i don't have the history of the LLWS memorized). it's a pretty big deal. again, name another female athlete that is deserving, and we can have a conversation about it. but to discuss the biology of whether or not it's actually a big deal is silly.

Serena Williams won her 6th U.S. Open and 33rd major championship.

Hannah Rogers went 30-8 and led Florida to a national championship in softball

Chiney Ogwumike was a unanimous All American in basketball and averaged 22.4 points a game.

And then there are all the Olympians.

But hey, this girl pitched two games on national television and their team didn't even make it to the championship. Let's give it to her!

can you name any of the female Olympic Gold Medal winners? (i'm assuming they'd have to be American)

Diana Taurasi was WNBA Finals MVP

maybe Michelle Wie who finished 4th on the LPGA money list...
