Just got back from er with 1 year old with flu.

Would having my 4 year old take tamiflu as well help prevent her from getting it?

Both kids have had flu shot.

Supposedly you have to take it almost immediately after getting the flu.

Honestly not worth it even under optimal circumstances unless your immune system is compromised.

Tamiflu is an anti viral, so I would imagine while they are taking it. It would be unlikely that they would come down with symptoms.

Since the flu virus would not be able to replicate.

Yes.

Like my gf started birth control after we had sex for the first time.

A preventative.

Just a warning....I took it and had a pretty adverse reaction. I became very paranoid and depressed and couldn't tell what was going on. Still don't feel right.

They actually warn you of unusual behavior on the commercial.

Edit: I took it in conjunction with a steroid and cough syrup.

You're what we call an "at risk" person, so I would take tamiflu for the next few days as a preventative.

Here's a study if you're a healthcare provider (Meta-analysis) indicating its efficacy in prevention of influenza symptoms in "at risk" households:

Okoli, George N.; Otete, Harmony E.; Beck, Charles R.; Nguyen-Van-Tam, Jonathan S.; Schmidt, Robert Lane (9 December 2014). "Use of Neuraminidase Inhibitors for Rapid Containment of Influenza: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Individual and Household Transmission Studies". PLoS ONE 9 (12): e113633.

Our kids' pediatricians have always offered tamiflu scripts for our other kids when any of them got the flu.

At the ER now with the flu. This sucks severely and I as well got the flu shot this year.
Haven't had the flu since I was a kid and the first year that I have ever gotten the shot, I get the flu.

Don't give any medicine that is man made. Use natural ingredients. You'll only hurt them in the long run

It's an expensive preventative measure. I haven't seen great evidence on its efficacy, but I haven't read too much into it, admittedly. Anecdotally, more of the docs I have worked with don't offer it to the family members as preventative if they're not high risk (elderly, <2, immunocompromised).

Just took day 4 of Tamiflu, all symptoms gone. Never had flu before, but whole family (in-laws) are saying it was pretty mild based on their experience so they think tamiflu worked well.

Good luck with 1 year old. Strains used for shot missed this year as you know. FWIW my GP said in future get the Quadrivalent flu mist as it has a herding effect for you and family, and the more strains of protection the better

NO!!!

i wish some of these dumb arse physicians would learn that fact too...

and for the MD's, i know what the frick the package insert claims it does, but knowing exactly how the medication works, there's no way it works as a prophylactic therapy...
