Deer hunting & pecans

Anyone of you wise folk ever heard of deer eating pecans? I'm about to get my hands on a ton of them and I don't eat them. There are minimal oaks on our lease so no acorns. I'm sure deer eat all types of nuts, but never really done anything with pecans or actually heard of it being successful.
And of course I'm not hunting over them I'm going to hunt out of sight of them here in MS.
TIA

A biologist did an article in the La Sportsman last year about a study where they examined the contents of a seers stomach. Pecans were pretty common.

Deer cross the road where I hunt and eat pecans in my uncles yard. Last year on Christmas eve he looked out his kitchen window while cooking and there was a 10 pt eating pecans. This is St mary parish not some area where this would be common at all.

Yes. I'm have a couple stand on pecans trees in our orchards. They love them. Usually wait until later in the season after all the acorns are rotten

Sell 1 ton of pecans at 5 bucks a pound = $10,000
Buy 1 ton of corn at 6.50 per 50 lbs = $260
Leaves you $9,740 for hookers and blow

Out of sight, out of mind Cro.
You hunting in MS anytime soon. I walked the lease around stands and such on Sunday and had very little signs of rut. Ground scrapes, small trees, etc. nothing happening yet. I'm thinking next week and after will be right.

Deer tore up 3 trees in my yard night before last... jujube tree, Asian pear, and mayhaw. Pecan company came last week and cleaned out all the pecans. I think the deer were taking their revenge out on my smaller trees.

used to hunt along the river where there were wild pecan trees. If you found some, you better have a stand there.

That's the real answer... they will get in your yard and eat the ones people grow too, but wild pecan is pretty common in a few areas of the state. Deer love them.

This. They seem to especially love the small native ones as has been mentioned.
Giles is loaded with them.

Yes it is. Sat in a box on the levee Saturday afternoon snacking on them. Little small ones were tasty and kept me busy for a few hours.

Okay not getting an exact TON, I guess what I meant to say is getting my hands on some (a lot). Hell free deer feed is free. Getting acorns as well.

Your post reminds me of a muzzleloader hunt I made on private land in the middle of Tensas NWR about 20 years ago.
I was hunting slowly into the wind up a woods road and heard this LOUD "crunchcrunchcrunch". There was a curve ahead in the road and I could see the top of a towering pecan tree. I eased slowly to where I could see around the curve and there were 2 GROWN (GROWN = HUGE) does eating pecans. It sounds unbelievable, but I guarantee they were at least 50 yards away and I could hear them.
I was buck hunting so passed them up. Could have shot either of them.

Just pulled in. About to go pull the cards in the cameras. Report back shortly.
ETA: Psyche, I'm not going out in this typhoon, but I will let you know what I find when I do make it out.
