I think that thread has been archived on TD which means a regular search won't work. I don't feel like using the google search to find it.
But I did find an article that mentions White's attempt to get financial backing from businesses (translation: subtle extortion) for a charter school.

State Rep. Bodi White (R-Central) is a major supporter of the pullout even though Central is on the northern edge of East Baton Rouge Parish.
More than a year ago and before the St. George pullout movement was formalized, White called on businesses in South Baton Rouge in an effort to drum up financial support for a charter school in that part of the parish.

I know taxes will go up. Anyone who didn't believe that is ignorant.
I know EBR is't the worst or most dangerous. National Merit and AP fellas bringing up them scores. I would have to bet that the lower and middle range scores at other schools are better than those at the ebr public schools.

My poorly worded rambling isn't incorrect, however.

how many of those were from BRHS compared to others combined?

Sounds familliar, Rusky. We probably talked about it before but I can't keep track of or remember everything. I love getting involved anonymously from the comforts of my office but ultimately it's not something I worry too much about. Right now I have 12 employees who all seemingly have dysfunctional relationships with each other + a wife and kids.
Who knows how much dirt on these clowns gets flushed out of memory when the cup overflows.

BRHS is part of Ebrpss. All Ebrpss high schools offer AP courses and have produced AP scholars. BRHS, Mckinley, Woodlawn, and Scotlandville have all consistantly produced national merit/achievement scholars in the last 5 years.

It is, of course, an A rated school.

It is one of the schools the SG organizers want to be included in their ISD. LINK

Wonder what kids go there?

Media stories were run that St. George is a racist movement. That is fricking despicable. You know God forbid people want a better education for their children. You have a city like Baton Rouge that has a very large minority percentage with failing schools and violence. Why would anyone want to send their kid to those shitty public schools that have no accountability and constantly lie and fudge numbers?
Frontline is a liberal outlet. They only have one speed-and that's a Hate Whitey Narrative. It was unfair and typical knee-jerk liberalism and it sucked. But please don't presume to speak for everyone. I live in the area , have three kids in the "shitty public schools" , am VERY pleased with their progress, and want them to stay where they are thriving now.
quote:I agree. The cost of private schools is a real setback for non-affluent parents and it disrupts neighborhood cohesiveness, to boot. It would also be nice if many parents committed to reforming the neighborhood public schools instead of sending their kids to private schools, as well. But I scoff at the notion that St. George will be any better than those schools already are. Especially when you factor in FLIGHT into "St George" from those areas. And then you factor in the collapse of EBR schools after all their better schools are yanked away. And then you factor in huge new infrastructure costs and rising taxes.
It is despicable that any residents living there have to pay taxes to fund EBR schools, and still pony up more cash to send their kid to a high dollar private school just so they can get an education worth a shite.
St. George is truly a LOSE-LOSE for those of us who live here. I support reform and tiered schools which establish more magnet schools and more "disciplinary schools", where the worst kids are aggressively removed from the kids who want to learn.
As always, vote your conscience and do what you think is best. But don't presume to speak for me.

I'm pointing out your statement that it's "fricking despicable" that race has been reported as a motive for the SG effort and then two sentences later you give race as a motivation
No, he said the media ran that racism was the motivating factor. The fact that black minorities, statistically, perform poorer in education is not racist, but does acknowledge race. Of course, you were the first one on the board to claim racism was the whole reason for St. George, 2 years ago.

So, what are SG schools going to do to change this? Or will it simply improve by reducing the percentage of minorities that attend?
See, I think people assume the latter is going to happen. After-all that's what happened in Central. They formed a new school district and the schools drastically improved on day 1 even though it was the same buildings, teachers, policies, and cirriculum. Argue difference? Stopped busing kids in from the ghetto.
The problem here is that desegregation is no longer the case and the shitty students that are in SEBR schools actually live in SEBR. You're not going to see that shift in demographics.

What is your point?

The only way it's possible is if the private schools near the area lose population to the public schools. That is what they may be hoping for.

Again, apples and oranges. In order to comply with desegregation rules, EBRSS was busing in AA students from North Baton Rouge. I think at one point Central High was 50% black. What saved those systems is that busing stopped.
The SG area isn't subject to desegregation and busing. The shitty students that go there now actually live in the area.

quote:True. And fair points. Although I'm not sure how some would take you implying that the AA's being bussed to the north were "shitty".

But I think that would be any goal of a new school district... to pull new students from the local private schools.

I used to be a huge fan of frontline and got really excited about the StG show from the onset due to this board. Wow. Bad. Just terrible.
I don't think I've watched one since.
