I drove from BR to Hammond and back every day for 6+ years and saw a hand full of accidents actually happen, none of which involved an 18 wheeler. I did pass plenty of accidents that had already happened that did and did not involve big trucks.
The point is, the people who drove that stretch on 12 caused a lot of wrecks where no big truck was involved.

I base this on the fact that most of the trucks I see are driving safely while a lot of the 4 wheelers I see drive like they have a death wish.
+1 . But I'm a truck driver so I might be biased.

Yeah there are some rebel truckers out there, but not like the old days. The trucking industry is the most regulated industry, and due to these companies dealing with lawsuits, they put a lot of pressure on drivers regarding safety. Speed limiters, GPS tracking, and cameras.
Not to mention these guys have families they are trying to raise, and know an at fault accident will basically kill there earning power. (Not that they make much to begin with)
Meanwhile the passenger car is doing a list of things other than trying to be safe and respect the dangers of what they are doing

This hurts a lot less than the truck that dumped all those white cans/bottles everywhere

But was the 18 wheeler at fault? ETA: Also, since you say there is an 18 wheeler "problem", do we have numbers on these accidents and how many are the fault of 18 wheelers?
Well lets just add another one.
SIL was going hunting this morning and ran into the back of a loaded cane truck that didn't have any running lights or tail lights.
Totaled his truck. He is in bad shape. Has one big cut in his fore head, broken nose, broken left arm, broken right ankle. Still waiting on more catscans and xrays. For sure he has to have surgery on his ankle.

What can be done to curtail this 18 wheeler problem? Another one today in tangi near the Robert exit.
Shutdown the Walmart distribution center in Robert. Problem solved.

The drivers of those 18-wheelers need to slow down.

Cars could start by waitin the appropriate 6-8 lengths before moving back in front. Also don't get all pissy and pass me on the right when I am waiting the appropriate length to move back to the right lane. Louisiana needs to require a road test every 4 years. I am scared on the road to work every day.

That's why I asked the question. My brother is a truck driver and I'm close friends with several others. I see what these guys go through from a safety standpoint and know the dangers they face. I know not all truckers are safe drivers, some are outright idiots who should not be trusted with a Walmart mobility scooter. But from what I've seen the vast majority are very professional in their chosen vocation.

No no fire les because he can't develop truck drivers......

This is the majority. Just like the majority of people driving a car along side that big rig aren't idiots, it's the minority that cause problems. Somehow the idiots on here lump all truck drivers in the minority while abstaining the moron texting in his pickup from any.

Nope, look at container haulers(ship containers), sand and gravel dump trucks, they're usually the reckless ones

A lot of the guys getting in accidents are not owner-operators from what I've seen. Maybe there are more corporate trucks, but those are the ones usually flipped over.
Most of the maps I've seen that truck drivers have show every single curve, the speed he should be driving through that curve, truck stops, good places to eat, etc. Mainly, these wrecks are caused by 4 wheelers and not the big trucks
