Does LaCouture end up losing his starting position next year?

Although I fully expect him to begin the season as a starter, seems like a best case scenario if Valentine is what we think he is. CL and Thomas would be a nice backup to Godchaux and Heart Day.

Starting is for High School. He's going to play a ton regardless.

What are we basing Valentine being so good off of? Let's at least see the spring game.

You think he'll be as good as we thought Gilmore would be? Or what about Herron? I think it's safe to say Lac will be starting next year

lol what? You are trying to bench s guy who came around strong midway through the year for a guy who's overweight and hasn't played a down yet?

Jesus let him make a play of two first

No. He took ownership of the position this year. Should continue to progress and excel.

Has anyone EVER lost a "starting" position under Les Miles that didn't because they were kicked off the team or suspended or something???

Nah LaCouture has earned that starting job. I don't see anyone pushing him out

Doesn't matter who starts. All quality defensive players on the line will get in the rotation.

LaCouture and Godchaux will start at the start of the season next year because they've earned that. If Valentine comes in and looks like an absolute beast and is our best DT, then I think he takes over for LaCouture...or even Godchaux if he doesn't improve himself (I'm assuming he does from his freshman to sophomore season to hold down his spot).

There have been so many glowing reports about Valentine being "the best DT" in practices and I think waiting around for him to get qualified shows he's more than worth the wait...BUT, I will say it wouldn't be the first time Miles or the coaches have hyped up and then turns out to be nothing and/or not even play like Welter's "the most improved player" award from last year to this year during the spring or them hyping up Herron and not putting him on the field.

No, the best case scenario is that we find Valentine to be what we think he is, AND LaCouture improves his game to where he is better than what we think Valentine is, AND someone else, either already on the team or being recruited, ends up being a total monster who is better than either Valentine or LaCouture.

don't put too much stock in recruiting services or practice "sources". There are endless examples of why you shouldn't.

LaCouture is not as bad as this board makes him out to be. Hell I think he was the MVP of the entire front 7 this year. Did his job consistently.

He'll start. Valentine isn't going to do anything but sit in a lot of reserve PT next year. He hasn't even seen what it's like to stand up against another college lineman. He definitely will not be starting at the beginning of next year I can tell you that much unless he's utterly dominate in every facet of his game.

Kid's played well. Was pressed into action as a freshman, and he hung in there. And he improved very steadily this year. I don't understand why some fans are wishy washy about him.

Starting won't really matter as much next year. Chief likes to rotate 5 or 6 guys in the middle but never really established that kind of depth. Next year we'll go back to seeing that steady shuffle of big guys and it will pay huge dividends in the 4th quarter of games. Valentine will be a beast and Godchaux may be on the path to the 2nd coming of Dorsey but big LaC will see a ton of time.

Certainly seems like it's possible, but as others have said, he'll play a lot
