My vice was Skoal straight, and classic Cope. Started around 15 and quit at 25. It took 2-3 times before I quit completly. 1st week was hard but was easy after that. For some reason, after about 2 months of being clean and not craving it, my body would long for a dip. Like really bad. When I get my kids out of college, and no longer have a ton of responsibilities, I will start back. I just love it that much.

Update: I quit Christmas day. Nothing since, but I did smoke a cigar last night after a few drinks.
Definitely hardest when I get a few beers in me

I quit all tobacco on New Years. Not as hard as people say.
Eta: I've made some long drives and two duck hunts no problemo. Also done some drinking and sold a house. If I can make it through that stuff, I cam make it through anything.
Tomorrow back at work will be a test.

I quit Skoal about 1989 or so after probably 10 years. Cold turkey. About a can a day. I remember when a can was 33 cents.
From time to time after that I would get a pouch of Levi Garrett or a plug of Day's Work that would last for months and I might go 6 months without another. I might would have a cigar or two a year. I never felt addicted to leaf tobacco but that damn Skoal was a habit. I have not touched it again and I am scared too.
I haven't had any tobacco in probably 10 maybe 20 years BUT when I get older--maybe 70 or 75-- and it doesn't really matter any more I may start back!! There are still times I think about it. Strange isn't it?
I am really glad I quit and wish you good luck. Put it out of your mind.

Good to the op...it's worse than smoking. My best friend is completely hooked & I don't know if he'll ever quit.

Still going strong. Have had dip in my face and turned it down. Was having stomach problems a while back and they've stopped. Chalked it up to tobacco and that's motivation enough. Good luck to everyone's resolution. Guy I know quit New Years and is having problems.

yeah, the acid reflux feeling was never a good one.
The goods far outweigh the bads when it comes to quitting, but it's just hard with the habitual part...
shittin, studyin, long drives, after a meal, whatever your go-to's are

I swear I'm quitting after hunting season. I'm really bad A.D.D. so it's going to be hell. From what I've read I dip more than anyone on here (not proud of this) but 2-2.5 cans a day. If I'm up at 4:30AM to hunt and hunt all day then go home (like today) I may run through 3 cans. It sucks. I want to quit its just going to be tough. I hate the way sunflower seeds dry my mouth out all day. Peppermints may work and I'm not to keen on chewing gum. I know if I can quit the monetary gains would be nice as well as overall health. I have an 18 month old son and want to quit before he understands what I'm doing. Good luck OP sounds like you're doing a great job.

six days in. Still getting fidgety and distracted when I want a dip or a cig. I tell myself it is mind over matter and that it will get easier.
I'll have 3 days at the deer camp this weekend to really test my willpower.

I dipped for about 12 years and decided one day to just quit cold turkey. I didn't dip but twice a day usually, once after lunch and once after dinner. But I would think about it all day long. I switched to sunflower seeds while trying to quit and it worked. Not wanting it after drinking all night was tough but you will eventually not think about it. It helps to not be around anyone with it which is tough if hanging out at the camp. My mouth will still water when I smell it though.
good luck

I don't dip all that much. Most of the time, I go through 3 cans of the skoal straight pouches in a week. Cleaner for the office and driving. Every now and then I'll get a can of long cut. I need to quit, and there are times when I may go a week or two without one, so I don't think I'm hooked on it. Just something to pass the time.
