I don't see what is that crazy.
I was thinking it would be a highly competitive field/company. I guess I find it both ludicrous that nordstrom cared so much, and ludicrous the man felt compelled to pursue legal action. Seems like he could easily get a comparable job. I think theres a lot of background information to know still.

I always google a person if I am interviewing them for a job. One guy had "pimping and partying" as his interests, he did not get the job.

Of course he's threatening to sue, his right to free speech was violated, etc. And some attorney is going to take this case and now it seems that he will be able to raise money on a GoFundme page or something. He may be rewarded with a payday that will probably be more than this guy's total lifetime earning potential.
If he wins, then Donald Sterling should get his team back. It's only fair.

My employer regularly sends emails saying that if you are going to have our place of employment listed on our facebook page (or other social media sites) then we can be fired for things that we post on them.
I have no problem with that.

Were we better during the slave days? Or when women couldn't vote? Or when we were slaughtering Native Americans? I'd say we are improving as a whole.

Do what? That's the only way you get unemployment. You don't get it if you quit voluntarily.

Which is why two things are always helpful in these types of situations:
1. Check your employment laws to see if you are "right to work"
2. Have a written social media policy for employees which includes saying stupid shite while "off the clock"

Freedom speech protects you from governmental control/retaliation.
Private enterprise can hire/fire anyone over matters which they control (not race, disability, gender, etc).

This has nothing to do with the topic. As already answered above, right to work law has to do with joining unions. It is a completely different set of labor laws than at-will employment.

It sounds like a fancy word for someone who works the floor at Nordstrom (correct me if I am wrong though).

I think there was an assumption on OPs part that legal action would be taken. There was nothing in the link posted about it. I do think that is something that Nordstrom can't ignore from a publicity standpoint.

Ok, true, but it is a form of "getting fired."

Had a similar situation happen at work. Although the person's posts were to the tune of "this company sucks and i can't wait to be out of there." So the department manager granted their wish.

I'm pretty sure that SuperSaint got banned for posting something similar.
Edit: he didn't post anything about a black teen

for some reason I was under the assumption that an employer can fire an employee at any time or place with no reason or any reason and thats ok.
They might have to pay unemployment checks until they got a job or whatever but it's not illegal.
am i mistaken?
In this particular case....his facebook post was promoting violence against police officers....which is surely enough cause to lose his job.
