also probably lost in all this is the service academies.
i don't necessarily think their coaches are wizards but it shows the type of young man you recruit does matter. i would think on average their players have a higher character/discipline level/work ethic.
and that translates into some W's above where their talent level is.
while Miles seems to get all the blame and his assistants get the credit it's still the players that play the game.

how many have they won in a row?
true, while the last two seasons were spectacular the original post was right as well.
i'd even go so far to say that ACC as a whole has gotten worse and FSU has been the beneficiary of that. they can't help it. but they are winning the games they are supposed to now and credit needs to be given to fisher.

It really is pitiful. But the sec sure got their asses kicked a few weeks ago in match ups with acc

that they did.
s carolina was a major disappointment this season. UK is still UK though give stoops some time. GT's win was impressive in athens. their spot on the chart shocked me a bit as i thought they are outplaying their recruiting. and well no surprise this yr for FSU vs UF.

I wish we could add an additional two metrics from 05 to date: 1)success rate of LSU players getting drafted/picked up in NFL (as compared to other schools; and 2) success of players who have played and are currently playing in the NFL (although I realize the second is somewhat problematic...maybe success = 3 or more years in NFL, or whatever it takes to receive retirement benefits).
Then, take all 3 metrics and have the admins sticky it at the top of the recruiting page.
I don't know why LSU doesn't do this and send out a press release; could be a project for students in statistical analysis classes. The comparison is HUGE ('cept for our nemesis BAMA of course, but we even beat them in these two particular categories).

This makes me actually at the Miles detractors. It PROVES two things: that they are wrong when they say that he under uses or under develops talent, and that they are clearly Bamasessed.
here's the thing about bama. the secret behind their success is that they/saban recruit better than everyone and it isn't that close. better talent = better results.
you could almost make a better argument that bama should never lose a game as opposed to Miles has done a poor job here.
but the fact remains the SEC is a slaughterhouse and bama has thrived in it and it's more than impressive.
Well, Bama's secret is how they keep those top recruits from leaving early. Bama's starting lineup is almost all juniors and seniors. They rarely ever have to plug in a freshman and their QB position has been stable.

while i get what you're saying coll success and NFL success for players should be kept separate.
there are examples like jamarcus who was a great coll qb and we know what happened after college. josh reed wasn't the beast he was in college.
while some guys translate well. alan faneca might be considered a HOF guy one day. kyle williams has been a rock for LSU and a rock for the bills.
some do better with maturity and just develop continuously. as great as OBJ was here, he's clearly become a more complete WR (improving his hands the most noticeably) in the NFL.
patrick peterson was great here but developed into a top 3 corner in the NFL. while everyone loved flynn when he was here i don't know how many people would think he'd still be on a roster in 2014.
mo claiborne seemed like a can't miss first rounder and has been dissappointing.
it's a crap shoot.

i don't have it in front of me, but i think a couple of yrs ago when we had a mass exodus i think Bama had the 2nd amount of underclassmen leaving.
i can't argue your point on QB's though. they haven't had the misses and bad luck that LSU has had there. that said, they lost to jordan jefferson twice.

I think it would be kind of funny to have an arrow pointing to LSU with something along the lines of, "Mediocrity."

Lsu 21 juniors leave. The next closest program is bama with 12.

If these are the parameters of the graph then it's a joke.
Based off of a player staying for 4 years is an assumption. Which like C said, we have plenty of eligible players leave early.
I'd like to see also how many players contributing in 2013 were in the final recruiting class recorded.
Ole Miss for example is a good measure if you go look at where they are on the graph.

While I understand your thinking, you sort of solidified my argument....success equals being an NFL player, period, not being an NFL star (which is mega success). Mo,Flynn,Woods, Wright etc. may not be stars, but they're in the NFL collecting pay checks. (In Flynn's case huge paychecks lol).

Bu-bu-but!!
Miles is a good recruiter but cant coach players up and we underperform!

So you think they would be undefeated in the sec west this year? It is possible, but not the way they played in several games this year. But hey I'm just looking at the chart and it says weve done better on the field.

Yeah I think you're right that they had the second most losses as LSU, but it was by a wide margin. And they seem to have NFL ready juniors routinely stay. Maybe its my imagination.

2005-09 recruiting and 2009-2013 performance.
No. Each recruiting rating is an average of 5 years. The 2009 rating is an average of 2005-2009. The 2010 rating is an average of 2006-2010. The 2011 rating is an average of 2007-2011, and so on.
The 2014 recruiting rating would be 7.6, which is about average compared to the ratings that were used (7.4). Currently, the on-field rating for 2014 would be worse than any of the seasons from 2009-2013 (of course, the season's not over yet, so we don't know where exactly it would rate). The on-field ratings also exclude Miles' worst season to date -- 2008.
None of this is exact, which the article states. I think Rivals does a good job with their evaluations, but it's certainly not precise. It's also worth noting -- the Year-by-year on-field ratings ranks LSU #1 in 2011, and Alabama #2.
