If it was me, I would hangout in the mountains. Enjoy the scenery. Cook up some good food, drink good drinks.. Maybe go into town once or twice. Go hiking.

The only thing I would add is plenty of firewood.

Aquarium is really surprising good. Skiing is ok is you are not very good. The park Cades cove is awesome. See if you hunt or fish. I saw a ton of people fly fishing when I was there and wish I would have brought mine

I'm pretty sure the Park Rangers frown on hunting in or around Cades Cove.

The aquarium is meh, don't understand why people like that so much.

Chimney Tops is reopen all the time now, they are working on Alum Cave now I believe.

For all that said Cade's Cove. USE THE frickING PULLOFFS IF YOU WANT TO STOP/LOOK AT SOMETHING!

I just want to run Parson's Branch, not sit in traffic because some dumbass wants to stare at a deer. God forbid there is a bear, no one is going anywhere that day.

Elkmont, TN is a must see and not very many people know about it. It's close to gatlinburg and is a beautiful drive. They have places you can pull off and picnic/grill by a beautiful creek. Elkmont also has a huge campground with slabs you can pitch a tent on. I think it costs $11/day. Elkmont used to be a logging community and all of the cabins still stand today. It's a really cool place to walk around. Here's the history about elkmont. I strongly suggest going here

M*fing this. Stay away from the Little House of Pancakes - terrible place is terrible. A good place to eat is Huck Finn's Catfish in Pigeon Forge.

As others have said, Cade's Cove is a must. Also, stop on by Smokey Mountain Knife Works. If you have kids, take them to the aquarium. Hiking to the falls (Abrams is the best). Get a cabin - we stayed at one the last time that was by an awesome lake...great and worth it.

Yes, it is a tourist town but it is what you make it. We love the place but haven't been able to get back for quite some time due to being stationed too far away - next year, though...

Motor nature trail is cool.

Ober Gatlinburg skiing

Dollywood is actually really fun.

Cades cove is overrated

Smokey Mountain Alpine Roller coaster in Pigeon Forge

Apple Barn is a great place for good lunch in Pigeon Forge

There is also an indoor water park at some hotel close to Pigeon Forge, you can google it if you're interested, it was fun.

The upside down mansion is also cool in pigeon forge.

Out of all of those, I would say definitely go to Dollywood.

F Gatlinburg. I went one time and realized that was my eternal hell. The traffic in and around that place is worse than Baton Rouge on its worst day. Unless you are in to cheesy magic shows and 1000 pancake houses...there's nothing there for me.

Staying in the Smokey Mountains somewhere else would be alright...but F that facking place.

Eastern TN and western NC is some of the best scenery in the country. If you go and spend your time in pancake shops; you are doing it wrong.
