Still really wished we would have drafted DeAnthony Thomas

This seems like a gigantic miss by the FO. He would have been a natural fit here with Payton finding ways to use him and he looks about as electric as they come as a returner all for a 4th rounder.
Really exemplifies how bad this draft was outside of Cooks

Honestly I don't even think cooks was even good. There were plenty of other WRs we could have gotten that are just as if not more productive than he has been this year

yeah he has good hands but hasnt shown any playmaking ability. essentially he is lance moore up to this point.
*** he did start looking better toward the end of the year though.

Cooks will be fine, it's on the staff to actually use him

I completely agree. Knew he would be an explosive player.

Cooks is no guarantee to be viewed as a "win" in the drafting department.

Cooks is fantastic.
Any ways, D Thomas was a 4th round pick.

Well that is ridiculous. He wasn't the deep threat we wanted early in the year, but he was a 1st down machine. He was beating teams deep at the time of his injury too.

Weren't many at the point he was injured.
At the time of his injury (week 11), Brees has a 111 Rating when throwing his direction (3rd best among rookies). Had a drop rate of 3.64 (2nd best among rookies).
He caught 81.5% of the passes thrown his way (best in NFL)
We also expanded his role once Stills came back, and he was consistently getting behind defenses the last few games. 4 deep balls in the last 3 games (4th most in the NFL in that period) with 121 yards and 2 TDs on 3 catches. He did drop 1 TD though
If anything, he showed that he's a much better possession receiver than I thought he would be.

i.e. the guy has great hands and is dependable.
Cobb and Brown took a few years to produce their current numbers, why so hard on Cooks? All because he was a 1st rounder we sacrificed a 3rd for?
Give Brees an OL like Dallas and those deep routes will open up more and more. Find a possession receiver and him, Cooks, Stills, Graham, and Toon might be the future of this team with Colston pretty much done.

I'd rather Thomas in the 2nd round over the dipshit pick we actually made

I'm surprised at the Cooks hating in here. He's been great for a rookie. This thread wasn't really about him..

We could have gotten a better wr in 2nd round.

Like who? I put Cooks at the top of the list in that"2nd rated" WR group from this last draft.
Evans, Beckham, and Watkins at the top and Cooks behind them.

I agree with this here & they were all gone before we drafted and would have costs us more to trade up for obviously....The only one who would probably be ahead of Cooks (in year 1) is Kelvin Benjamin......But the thing with Benjamin is the questions of his work ethic and how he conducts himself off the field, which are 2 questions that Cooks absolutely does not have and that's why I really don't think any of us should be complaining about the Cooks pick
If Benjamin stays in shape and doesn't get into any off field trouble, then we could look back and say we could've stayed at our original draft spot & picked Benjamin and still kept our 3rd pick and used that on anybody really...Maybe DeAnthony Thomas or Jon Brown at that point, or even better than that could've been Chris Borland!.........But as always, hindsight is 50/50 as Cam Newton would say
