Old school Legos that were just generic pieces that could make anything you could imagine? Yes, best toy ever.

Modern day Legos that come in a box, make one specific toy and instead of encouraging imiganination teaches a kid to follow instructions? Not so much.

Watch the Lego Movie, Darth. You'll enjoy it.

Yeah but did you build the death star, fill it with storm troopers, and then throw it up in the air and smash it in front of your Millennium Falcon then have Darth Vader crawl out of the wreckage and fight Luke and Han on a massive landscape of speeders and ATATs with your knex?

I didnt think so. Nerd.

I also 100% agree with this.

Yeah, frick thinking and creativity. Let's just beat the shite out of nerds.

But that's the problem. Back in the day a box of Legos was just a box of Legos. Today they were a fort, the next day those same pieces were a fleet of ships or whatever. The only limit to what you could build was your imagination. Now though they come in kits of parts made specific to build one toy and they even include instructions... I hate what they've done to Legos.

Yeah but it is tight to pick a genre and get a bunch of that type. I was a huge fan of the knights and castles. Get two set of those and go to frickin town.

That horse garmet tho.

Love LEGOs. There is still a huge wooden box filled with them in my parents' house, safely packed away.

Legos are great but the new sets have too many specialty pieces that don't interchange with other sets.

Lite Brite is now a portable, handheld, battery operated device that the pegs are damn near impossible to remove once inserted. I damn near had to beak out a needle nose pliers to help my kid. How a toy manufacturer could screw up such a simple toy is surprising.

My kid still loves drawing/coloring, sidewalk chalk and the other classics.

I have a girl and Hasbro is to be commended for their longevity in marketing of the My Little Pony brand.

The iPad is a favorite too. Kid rules at Fruit Ninja.

I would hope so.

But you could also buy the booster pack sets. I was always so jacked up when i got a new jungle one. The green ropes and the safari hat guy were always useful.

I had this one among many others.

Worth quite a bit these days.

One of my brother's boys is getting a new technic set as a Christmas gift, I kinda want to buy one for myself too...

ETA: Every LEGO fan deserves to go to the LEGO section of FAO Schwarz in NYC and the LEGO store in Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World.
