My brother semi-guides with a service out of S Dakota and I think it'll run you in the $4500 range. I can get you some details if you'd like. They routinely kill 140-160" deer. It is all free range, and I can pretty well guarantee you will have a blast. Definitely wouldn't be until next year.

thats awesome of your wife but I would do some research and not be so quick to jump on that deal. You can buy a lot of licenses with that kind of money for a few years vs 1 hunt.
IF you are an experienced deer hunter I would strongly recommend this approach. Put in some time and research public land in the midwest and plan to make a yearly week to ten day hunt with 2-3 of your good hunting buddies. With that kind of money, you could make this trip for several years in a row.
While I understand the attraction to having an outfitter provide a guide and top notch accommodations, there is nothing like doing the work yourself and killing a deer on your own.

I've thought of doing that in Ohio or Kentucky. My friends are a bunch of candyasses though

Look at Whitetail Heaven Outfitters in Kentucky. Its right in your price range and not a high fence they just have lots of land. Not a guarantee but there are huge deer killed there I follow on facebook and have seen quite a few giants over 180" killed.

If I'm paying that much I want a guarantee. Texas is about as close to a guarantee that you will get. Not saying go high fence. You will see so many deer it's crazy. Kansas would be my second choice.

Has anyone ever used the cabelas hunt finder outfitter service ?
I've used Cabelas Outdoor Adventures several times.
The upside is that the hunts are backed by Cabelas. So you have a somewhat lower likelihood of running into a fly by night outfitter and they've probably done some due diligence in checking the outfitter out (licensed, references, etc.). That said, I had a bad experience on an elk hunt back in 2007 that I booked with Cabelas. Cabelas really wasn't very sympathetic and pretty much told me to address it directly with the outfitter. Incidentally, Cabelas did drop the outfitter soon thereafter. My point being, nobody bats a thousand and even Cabelas isn't perfect. You should still check references and ask specifically for unsuccessful hunters that have hunted within the past 12 months.
The downside is that Cabelas takes a cut of the price of the hunt. The outfitter generally doesn't like this so the pricing on the hunts is typically inflated to ensure the outfitter and Cabelas both get their share. If you book a hunt through Cabelas and have a good experience try booking directly through the outfitter the next time around. You may save a good bit of coin doing this.

Wow, thanks for all the input guys! This is information overload. I'm a seasoned hunter and with the terrain we hunt in South Arkansas any of these places is going to be MUCH MUCH different. Thanks again for the input and WARTIGER I will be shooting you an email.

Call Greg Simons wildlife Systems. He has booked as many whitetail hunts as anyone in the US. Honest straight shooter. He could get you a trip this year and probably at a discount this late in the year.
emailed him this morning and he got right back to me. Looks like I may be booking a hunt with him to the Yturria Ranch in South Texas. I'm excited!!!!!

Yturria Ranch in South Texas
Its a very big ranch that's got several outfitters operating off of it. Lot's of exotic game there. A friend of mine turkey hunted on one of the ranches a few years back and sent me pics of oryx and gazelles in his turkey decoys.

well slight change of plans. My dad had a connection at Rattlesnake Springs and he had already done some leg work. I will be going to Rattlesnake Springs jan 9-11. Ought to be fun.
For what it's worth, Greg Simons was every bit the stand up guy that people on this board said he would be. If you need a late season hunt he may still have some dates mid-late january in South Texas. If I get to do this hunt again I will likely be using Wildlife Systems simply based on the customer service he provided. I hated to back out on him but I did not know about the details of this other ranch until after I had been in contact with him.

I would suggest either a hunt in Mexico or a South Texas Brush country hunt. This is going to be my 5th year in row of going to hunt the Brush Country in Mexico and it is an experience that you cannot really describe until you go there. A very target rich environment with hogs, javelinas, coyotes, and deer. I only bow hunt down there as well because hunting with a gun is not a challenge.
