We have like 6 remotes that I'm going to go on a killing spree because of if I don't consolidate this bullshite.
Anyone use something specifically for streaming devices? We have a TV, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, DVD player, HDMI switch box...frick me
Any suggestions?

Logitech Harmony remotes dominate the market. They're pricey but I've had good luck on e-bay with some of their older models. The 880 is the best one IMO. Avoid the 670 which has screen problems. They've got a library of settings by make and model on-line that covers every device I've ever tried to configure, including a 3-way HDMI switch.

I use several Harmony remotes at different tvs in my house and each TV has at least one of the devices you have listed and each remote handles them flawlessly.
Chromecast and the Amazon Fire TV are the only devices that the Harmony remote won't run. The Chromecast uses another device to cast and control its content and the Amazon Fire uses A blue tooth remote to control it.
Harmony is the brand you should buy.

I've always had good success with the logitech harmony series of remotes in regards to general universal remote use. Basically you can controll anything that has a IR receiver. The higher level models usually have the addition of RF and bluetooth capabilities as well.
Last time I bought a remote was a few years ago. At that time they had gimped some of the lower level models (compared to years previous) in the sense that they limited the amount of devices one remote controls. Seemed like a purely software decision at time.
I don't know if that's change. Otherwise to control that many devices may require a higher level remote.
In any case, the harmony series should be able to control your apple tv, roku, DVD player, and TV.
Will not control your Chromecast, but the logitech harmony remotes allow you to create an activity(I.e. "watch chromcast") that would switch everything to the appropriate input.
Of course this would depend on whether or not your HDMI switch is controllable by the remote. If it has IR input, then you should be able to teach the remote all of the signals.

My logitech harmony is the only "universal remote" I've ever owned that was truly able to control everything. Every other remote I've tried had at least 1 thing it wouldn't recognize.

I've had a harmony one for 4 years and it still works great. Easy to expand to other devices.

I have the Harmony 700. Using it currently with TV, satellite receiver, DVR, Apple TV, and EdenPURE heater. I haven't tried my ceiling fan yet but I'm guessing it may work also.
