Obama has EXPOSED the Democratic Party; I.e., the ludicrous, impractical, divisive, and dangerous consequences that implementing said policy begets.

But far worse than simply, temporarily removing Dems (their Collectivist economic ideology) from political power...he has imbued that Movement with the same Constitutional hostility and grievance-based sentiment for Individual Freedom that has always been the core of his own soul. The kind of 'unity' that he imagines...is the Authoritarian version, much like his "Muslim brethren".

Live and learn.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm 47. Old enough to see both parties "destroyed" 3 or 4 times.

So what you're saying is that it's cyclical

Oh no Bush screwed the Repub's for a few years, after all they took back the house ASAP after the public began to realize what Mr. Obama was. Mr. Obama has led the Dem's out farther into the wilderness than even President Carter did in 76-79. It will take decades for the Democratic party to recover from this just as it did from Carter. The US is a conservative country at heart and while liberal policies sound good in speeches they have a bitter aftertaste in practice.

Now the fact that they are/where both self interested liars is a fact

Bill clinton's first two years in office severely damaged the DNC brand but he shifted to the middle and rebounded well. Conversely, Obama seems hellbent on defying the the most recent elections and is moving more to the left. The question is, is there anyone in the party who can stop the leftward drift.

Bill Clinton was a bigger conservative than Bush jr. and was run IMHO just to get the Dem's foot back into the door. Barak Obama is the first liberal president since Carter.

I guess.

I'm mainly just saying that politics is funny. Americans have notoriously short memories. AND, while folks on this board probably have fairly specific criteria for what they want candidates to support/not support, I'd say at least a plurality of voters basically vote for whomever seems more likable or whomever comes off as the most interesting. shite, I watched Clinton's poll numbers LEAP right after he played the goddamned saxophone on TV.

Point being, many of these "destructions" are false narratives because the majority of the people attach a particular problem to fairly specific circumstances.

Oh, and never underestimate the ability of either party to drive off a cliff right after they blow past the other party. IE, overstepping on health care, or something as simply as a prominent conservative saying something retarded on race or sex that then gets the whole party labeled again.

Mark my words. At some point in the next 6 months, some Republican is going to do something that makes our heads hurt.

I'm not going to argue who was more liberal clinton or Bush but if you don't believe Bill governed from the left from 93-95 you weren't paying attention.

Obama is about 100x the ideologue that Bill was. Bill was perhaps the greatest national politician of my lifetime.

Oh, I didn't like him, but he was talented. On a side note, that's why I am routinely dumbfounded by how godawful his wife is at national politics.

Bill governed left in his first two years but still paid homage to middle of the road rhetoric.

Obama governs left and talks MORE left!! Basically, my view with Clinton is he was trying to give his leftists in the party something. With Obama, I feel like he's trying to drag his party even farther left.

Hell, if a conservative gave, word for word, Clinton's "welfare as we know it" 1996 speech, that dude would be portrayed as a borderline hood wearer.

Clinton was NEVER a conservative. He tried to govern from the left, but saw what an abysmal failure that was when his party lost BADLY in '94. And, all Clinton ever wanted was to be President so he just listened to Dick Morris so that he could get reelected in '96. At that point, he all he did was sign a bunch of Republican bills that he had previously vetoed. Remember his comment upon signing the Welfare Reform bill -- (paraphrasing) "I don't like it, but I'll fix it in my second term."

After reelection he strictly governed by trial balloons and polls. His sexual harassment lawsuit and perjury consumed his second term to the point where he became the lamest of lame duck Presidents this country has ever seen.

Bill Clinton was whatever he needed to be. Obama IS a far leftist. Obama may well be the MOST left elected individual in all of DC.

To me, that's the difference between the two. Hell, if Clinton would've had to cut the minimum wage to get re-elected, he'd have done it.

I wouldn't get so excited. Dems are still gonna take the White House in 2016.

This. A major party hasn't been destroyed since the Whigs before the Civil War. They're nearly indestructible. The Dems will be back, just like the GOP was.

That goes back to your assertion of Clinton's prowess as the ultimate political animal. The failure of his first two years in office lead to the Republican Revolution of 94 and Bill didn't miss a step as he danced towards the middle and did the stroll with the newly elected GOP.

This is going to sound odd from a conservative, but I actually HOPE the Dems take the WH in 2016 while the House and Senate remain republican controlled.

Double plus in my view.
1)Very little gets passed which is a GOOD thing for a small govt guy like me
2)Whomever the President is will be CONSTANTLY exposed via multiple vetos for what they really are.

Reid shielded Obama a lot by not allowing stuff to hit Obama's desk for a Veto. Stuff Reid KNEW could pass the Senate or at least put a lot of pressure on many Senators.

That allowed everything to be framed as just some nutty stuff from the House.

So, please please please let us get a Democrat in the Oval office who vetos shite left and right. THAT would be AWESOME for conservatives politically speaking.

Yep, Clinton started out from the left because he was elected as a democrat and had dues to pay. As soon as it became expedient he swung twords the center. Neither Carter nor Obama are capable of this because they are true believers, this is a huge distinction.

Nah, just a couple of years ago Democrats were crowing that the Republican party was dead. It's just cyclical.
