Every single week this is posted, the thing I see is basically beats by Dre or Bose. A couple people throw out some brand very few people have heard of and that's about it

I've had these for years. Used to have a job traveling 75% of the time and I used these on planes all the time. Also at work when people forgot how to control the volume of their voice. I would buy another pair in a heartbeat. Customer service is really good too. After a long time, the pads on the ears started to come apart so I emailed the company outside of the warranty period and they mailed me a new set of pads for free. Highly recommend.

Bose Bose Bose. Invest more and get the $300 ones if you can. I got them as a Christmas present and they're amazing. Put on a little music and you couldn't hear a fire alarm

I got a pair of panasonic a few years back for around that price and they worked well...unfortunately, I left them in my seat while pissing and some frickhead sat on them...

I got these Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones on sale for $124 and love them. There is a newer version now for like $170
ETA: Whoops guess these aren't noise canceling technically, but they block out pretty much all noise for me.

Save an extra $110 and buy the Bose S5 noise cancelling headphones. U can often catch them on sale for $260. The noise cancelling and sound quality cannot be beat.
Also check out Plantronic Backbeat Pro. Can find for $199. Noise cancellation not as good but are bluetooth if that is a need.

1) consider your actual need for noise-canceling headphones. If you're going with an over-ear sealed set of cans, active noise canceling may not be necessary. And adding active noise canceling will up the price $80-100 for little to no impact on the quality of the sound.
2) there are several brands with good over-ear offerings in this range. audio technica, Sony, and Sennheiser have great offerings in this range.
3) check out Inner Fidelity's Wall of Fame. They give very good and rather unbiased reviews, and they break down headphones and earbuds by category and compare them against similar products.
4) if you're around NOLA, check out the Best Buy on Veteran's Blvd. it's got a Magnolia Center (many elsewhere, but I believe that's the only one in LA), which means they have a good selection of higher-end audio equipment, especially headphones. You can actually put your hands on several pairs of headphones that you wouldn't find many other places and form your own opinion.
