from today's 247 update.

quote:

Who's #2?

One source we continue to talk to insists that Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops would be Michigan's number two target if things with Harbaugh are to falter.

Hackett's role remains the same: Get Harbaugh. The job of the search firm hired is to narrow the list of the rest of the candidates, determine the "swim lanes" and funnel things down as Hackett explained in his press conference last week.

We don't know if Stoops would be interested. I posted a comment from a good OU source yesterday that said Stoops would probably not be a candidate for the Michigan job if he never pursued the job at Florida. Whether that's the case or not, it's hard to say.

Les Miles seems to be trending a bit downward, and that's not only based on his tweet on Thursday referring to Florida as a "permanent opponent". Talking to those in Baton Rouge, Miles has children entrenched in the Baton Rouge area that have grown up there their whole lives, and a move at this juncture may not make much sense. There's also the idea that some that remain in the Michigan AD (not Lloyd Carr) are not in favor of a potential Miles hire.

So everyone's been correct lately in assuming that after this season, nobody would want Coach Miles. He's no longer a desirable candidate.

People on the Michigan boards don't understand that "permanent" is referring to our cross over game set up, not that Les is going to permanently be here. There was a lot of chatter about this yesterday and none of these folks grasp the concept that Les was taking a dig at the SEC.

Here is an interesting article about the players' meeting with the interim AD yesterday. Not that it is ground breaking, but it does say that the AD assured no spread offense (probably good news for the folks from Starkville)

Edit: If Hackett is picking up steam towards being the "permanent" AD, then I think Miles is still in the mix, given the relationship between the two.

Looks like they're putting all their eggs in the Harbaugh basket. If they have to wait until January and still don't get him, Michigan's options are going to be awfully limited. Not many coaches will want to be just a backup plan after they've chased after Harbaugh for so long.

So they won't offer Miles a 3rd time? Interesting.

I don't think Les Miles has ever been offered the Michigan job. I'm certain he was never offered the job in 2007, and I'm not sold that they wanted him in 2010.

do they not understand this was a reference to LSU and florida in the SEC playing each other every year? that tweet has nothing to do with Les staying at LSU

So, we are observing Miles' tweets and concluding that he's less a candidate? That's the 247 update?

The main reason Miles is not a candidate at most other jobs is because LSU is a destination job, he already makes $4M, and he's got LSU rolling. Miles is a respected coach that most schools would love to have (even with his quirks and Milesisms).

Michigan has to be the most delusional fan base in America. Harbaugh? Stoops?

Yeah, I'm going to go out on a limb and say neither of these "Candidates" give Michigan the time of day.

I mean why would they want a proven and successful coach. I am in the minority that does not want Miles to leave, but Michigan has to cut ties with Carr as well as these old fashioned boosters.

All of this said, the sonofabitch shouldn't get another contract extension or raise until he starts doing a better job of producing. If Alleva thinks otherwise, the BOS should block it and fire Alleva. Les (aka "Mess") needs to atone for 1/9/12 as well as this past shite season. I don't want to hear anymore bullshite coach speak. I do want to see a more competitive team fielded. Miles might want to take a look at how Saban is doing things and consider emulating some of it - for starters having his coordinators on the sidelines to directly coach players during the game. They can put folks in the coaches box that can give them the information needed to determine what plays to call. If they are not careful, they might even get the plays in on a more timely basis.

Michigan doesn't want miles because it's obvious he's plateaued and underachieved with the talent he's had. Bob stoops is a top candidate though...

I cant for life of me even believe that some people actually think that Miles will go to Michigan...There is zero chance he goes, he will either be fired, or retire at LSU, if anyone wants to bet otherwise, ill send my contact info and will take any wager...

Theres alot to juggle in Ann Arbor. Notice how they are letting the "rookie" handle things. CYA is alive and well in the big house.
All of them understand they are in a pickle. They have no choice but to be secretive and must tread lightly, not to have a PR nightmare in the heart of recruiting season with Dantonio and Meyer circling their recruits.

Lets just hope Miles' paycheck and total cost is just not in their cards add on he might say no which will kill their program. Maybe they dont make a reasonable offer. Safer that way anyway.
This is quite an event, Im enjoying the rhetoric from all sides.

I cant see Miles being past 2nd on their list and taking the job. They were clear that one of the requirements is QB development (Again to have an excuse to the alumni on why they didnt choose Miles if it gets that far) from the get go.
So Miles is probably OK sitting behind Harbaugh right now. Its not like he doesnt have it going on at LSU.

But if they offer some guy like Big Game Bob ahead of him, I dont think he says yes. What the heck has he done except lose ground even while Texas was struggling. This shouldve been their year and he shite the bed again.

In fact, I will lose alot of respect for Miles if it goes down like that.

In two years he'll only have one kid still at home. I think Miles stays, but I think the family angle is slightly overblown.
