He's a good backup pg for a mid season pick up.
Monty needs to get creative (I'm not holding my breath on this one) with rotations now more than ever of they want to survive

What I'd like to know is why we didn't make these types of moves in the offseason. Even letting Casspi go, a move that didn't seem like a big deal at the time, looks pretty foolish in hindsight. If Monty was so tired of teaching guys that don't know the system, hire more assistant coaches before you keep bad players just because they have Corporate Knowledge.
Monty wanting corporate knowledge does not explain Salmons v. Casspi. I think we have to stop using that as reasoning for the poor offseason moves.

Casspi didn't want to play here though.

ESPN sources say Pelicans, after signing Dante Cunningham, are now in advanced discussions to sign former Mavericks point guard Gal Mekel

Salmons vs. Casspi was not ever a decision. Casspi was on a minimum contract that would have been acquired via trade. Salmons was a FA signing to a much larger than minimum exception a few weeks after the aforementioned trade went down, and after being turned down by at a minimum Richard Jefferson and Alan Anderson.
If the Pelicans thought they could get someone better than Casspi with the Room Level Exception, which doesn't seem an unreasonable assumption considering Casspi was on a minimum deal, then the decision was that Miller and Babbit would make better backups than Casspi to the better SF they could acquire with a $2.7 million exception. Therefore bad players with Corporate Knowledge deemed > Omri Casspi

Information that came out after rumors leaked that we were waiving him. Did he really not want to play here or was that spin by his agent? We may never know.

Bio on mekel:
26 years old
6'4 200(very good size)
played at wichita state before going overseas
Averaged 13.3 points 5.4 assists and won a title in israel(getting MVP)
Great pick and roll guy that is a very solid passer. Good defender.
Shooting isn't amazing
NBA scouts have loved him and he's opened eyes.

In Demps we trust!
I still have the suspicion/hope that the salmons 2 mil signing is for a future trade idea, like the Melvin ely signing late last season

If its better than Rivers/Jimmer, its better than what we have already. Can't really get any worse.

So would this be Monty's lineup and bench now?
Jrue/mekel/Russ
Reke/rivers/jimmer
Cunningham/Babbitt/salmons
AD/Ryno
Asik/Ajinca/Withey
Or does Ryno start? Babbitt? Or does river start and move reke to the 3?
Either way, already looks better, I think rivers could possibly play better when he doesn't have the added pressure of setting up the offense

Can Maynor not play anymore? He was pretty nice for OKC a couple years ago.
Posted on 12/4/14 at 4:57 pm to lsutigernosaint
Maynor was never good in the NBA. He was a guy that a lot of people were really high on coming out of college(vcu I reckon) but he stunk it up in the NBA.

He didn't really "stink it up"
Played solid in a backup role behind Westbrook/Lilliard after tearing his ACL in 2012.
He was viewed as one of the better backup PGs in the league according to some.

What season the 9 PER or the 11 PER?

He should start out with Babbitt at the 3. Evans, Asik, and Cunningham is basically the new Unholy Trio on offense.
Cunningham should be tethered to Anderson, like Aminu should have been.

Eric Maynor? frick, might as well look up Fess Irvin.

It was a pretty bad miscalculation. Was there any reason we had to cut Casspi when he did?
