Meche's and geautreauxs are good....
I'm liking this place by the house though. Fleur de lis donuts.
On Saturdays/ Sundays they do a maple bacon(real bacon strips on top) donut that's pretty good.
On Fridays I buy for the office. Always hot and fresh when they give me the box. Oh and for the guy blowing loads over apple fritters theirs is pretty good as well.
Their kolaches are pretty good to. They have sausage, boudin and smoked chicken with a few varieties of the sausage available.

I didn't even notice that thread was whacked.
Last thing I saw was someone ask if I only had 1 donut
Anyway, I like simple glazed donuts. I don't really eat many sweets.. so it is surprising I like donuts, but glazed is just airy enough to not make me feel sick like cake or something does.
I do not like cake donuts.

A freshly made hot Shipley donut cannot be beat, but it's been years since I've had one. The leftovers are great the next day, split in have horizontally, cut halves butter and lightly broiled. Divine.

We did a Meche's, gautreauxs and Bunkie Shipley blind taste test one day at work. Shipley win 4 out of 5 people.

I only like microwaved honey buns if I can put a big scoop of ice cream on top.

Hot donuts from Shipleys, on days with the good grease, are the best.
I don't like anything but plain glazed.

There was a donut shop on Carrolton in New Orleans, pre-Katrina called the Bonbonneire. The guy was either German or Belgian and he made all of his pastries fresh every day. He made cream puffs, eclaires, all the classics and they were kept in a refrigerated case. It was such a treat to go in on a hot afternoon and indulge in one of these light, sweet delicacies.. I often wonder what became of him.

Don't get me wrong, I grew up on Dunkin' Donuts. But the crap they serve today is absolute garbage. They don't even make the donuts fresh anymore -- they are frozen and then shipped to the stores and thawed. They are completely commercialized and have sacrificed quality for the almighty dollar.
