So we'd be getting a big play receiver that can't run the entire route tree.
Worked well with Devery Henderson

He does have potential. He made some big plays a year ago. However this team needs that 3rd Rounder more than it needs Patterson.
A 3rd Rounder for someone who may only be your 4th WR on a team where the TE/RB accounted for nearly 80% of all targets a season ago seems like a luxury item on a car that needs some major engine work.
Edit: Also while we may have given up a 3rd Rounder(hypothetically) to receive him...
He would be coming with a 1st Rounders Salary and rapidly approaching the 3rd year in that deal that surely escalated in hit every year he stays in the league.
We would be paying double or triple the price for a position of strength while ignoring other need players who would have come much cheaper.
All in all just bad economic decision.

And I'm happy for Devery. But we don't need to be giving up draft picks for a big play receiver when our receiving corps is just fine and we already have a couple of big play threats.

Hmmm. Cordarralle Patterson or a guard from Southwest Idaho Technical A&M who even the people paid to talk about the draft on ESPN have no idea who the hell he is.
I'll take Patterson
I'll take Patterson

Absolutely not. Draft for depth on defense or the O-line.

So basically you'd rather a Patterson than a potential Jahri Evans? Good to know, we will all disregard your opinions in the future.

Carl Nicks, Terron Armstead...
while busts happen many great players have come from nowhere college university and in the middle of drafts.
EDIT: first round busts and 1 year wonders however happen a lot more frequently.

A 3rd rounder? 6th rounder is all I'd give up. What did we get for Sproles? A 5th? This guy is not worth more than Sproles.

young, fast, size, and potential at wide receiver
vs
old, fast, excels at what he does, but limited use at running back
two different kind of players, two different cost and value on the open market.
He'd garner a 3rd and I would have a hard time trading that. Players on rookie contracts (esp outside of 1st round) are cheap gold mines if they produce. Patterson would be pretty expensive 1-2mil cap hit for the next 2.5 years when we have other issues to take care of.

Disagree completely.
Patterson is a significant cut above both of the players you mentioned. If you could get him for a 3rd, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
All day. We need talent upgrades everywhere. We need a true number 1 outside type of wr. I think we could do very well molding this freak.

ETA: Our receiving corps isn't the problem. And from what I've read, he isn't a good route runner and can't get open. So we'd be getting a big play receiver that can't run the entire route tree. We currently have two big play receivers with Stills and Morgan, why do we need a third? Just for KO returns?
Exactly. The people who want this trade to happen are the ones who constantly complain about our defense and offensive line (albeit for good reason) yet can't seem to grasp that shoring up those units requires drafting for long-term security and stability, not luxury. Between Stills, Cooks, Morgan, Colston, and Graham, we are fine at WR/TE.

There were many who thought that Sproles was done. It really isn't a good comparison.

Nah. I think we could quite easily work on o line with 1st and second rounders. I'm a firm believer that the best way to improve our defense in the time we still have Brees is to have a complete juggernaut for our offense who keeps constant pressure on other teams offense to keep up. I honestly don't trust our club to bring in rookie difference makers on d. I'd rather any fa money we have on proven defensive commodities

Yes
But I'd also trade a 3rd pick to watch two dogs get it on so take that FWIW
and please stop with the whole DRIVEMAN OUT bs, it's not as funny as you think it is

I mean most teams have hard times producing good rookie corners at a high rate. Even teams with solid track records of making a top tier corners i.e. cleveland = haden, but gilbert is pretty bad even though he was rated #1cb overall. Striking gold on rookie corners is hard to do. A lot just don't pan out, and some just become average.
I just think the way we are, we don't need to be loading up on anymore weapons right now, not this year (2015) at least. We need new interior OLineman and in the 3rd round, I'd be more comfortable finding a new lineman than trying to make patterson into something when we have a hard time turning ours into something as well (toon)
