Some unions still serve a purpose, most are an outdated, worn ideal that no longer worksr
Construction trades or anywhere you have journeyman performing skilled labor are one area where union membership still works.

Yeah and conservatives want to destroy those unions as well.

Absolute horseshite. You've been brainwashed for too long. One of the most conservative states is also one of the most unionized states. The old "We good, you bad" mentality.

Bc, that is what you are arguing the point of a Union is with those examples you have given.
Not really but at least you gave it a go.
Unions as modern entity don't really have a purpose except to argue pay and benefits and in the present economy they really don't even do that, whatever the company offers they accept. But collective workers are at least a speed bump to check the company which is not a bad thing.
And all this great political clout unions allegedly have in DC is a joke compared to other national lobbying interest like energy and defense, it just isn't there anymore.

Then tell me what you are insinuating with

Sign up an injured worker, not a back sprain but someone that's lost a limb, had a cement mixer dropped on them offshore and they are paralyzed from the waist down, had a logging chain rip their hand off, etc.

Unions are for people that have poor work ethics and no ambition. They prefer everyone being treated the same and promotions being based on seniority and not on merit. fricking unions are ultimately the death of any company infected with them. They breed laziness and entitlement amongst workers.

I don't understand it either.

This is very true. But you also have to address the OP's asking of a 'mindset'. Union workers I've known are extremely stupid. They grasp on to the union explanation.
Example:
Premise: The plant closed down and everyone lost their jobs.
UAW: Why?
Me: Because they were paying you 70 dollars an hour to make sure the ash tray was in the truck.
UAW: Hey, the union didn't put a gun to their head and demand those wages. It was management's fault. It was a negotiation.
Any time you talk to unions you get morons and cliches.
Then, when they lose their jobs they are shocked. Since union people are stupid they don't save or invest in anything. So, they go on welfare.

Yep. Bought a business a few years back. Offered to let folks keep jobs and benefits with concessions. They were unionized and refused of course. Brought back a counter offer at which time I informed them that we weren't negotiating and shut the mf'er down. "Reorganized" and reopened later. I loved seeing the looks on their faces when they showed up to a locked up fricking building. I didn't want the original business anyway. Just the building and location, but was willing to try and make things work if they'd play ball. fricking retards.

It is the best of times here in Mississippi.
No unions.
And we can get workers at all the auto plants/suppliers for $12 per hour.
Profit.

Can't relate to someone wanting good work conditions and compensation?
Really?

OSHA and workmens comp providers dictate worker safety, if the workplace is simply not comfortable, workers are free to find another job at what they consider a better workplace.
If a worker feels they are not fairly compensated they are free to find a better job.

We have hired a bunch of hard working, energetic, young people away from unionized plants in this area by offering them an opportunity for advancement and pay based on their effort and ability.
They were sick of languishing in the union hierarchy, working circles around assholes with "more seniority", having to bid better paying jobs within the same company knowing full well they weren't going to get them because of where they stood in the pecking order.
I would love to hear you explain to them how their working conditions and compensation were somehow better when they were union workers.
